Mesa/Boogie Official Club Thread...Part #2

I play with a bit of distortion adding drive for grit, but without the grit I add, the 412 cabinet is extremely articulate. It has a definite midrange voice, but still reproduces the lows extremely well ( I usually only play in standard tuning, sometimes a 1/2 step down).

My basses all mostly have double P's (I play BCR CS basses, one of which has the p/j combo) and all but the Wave ( the only import I own (strangely enough also my favorite bass due to the neck) ) have Dimarzio's in them (the Wave is having EMG P-x's installed in her). And the Titan/412 combo really sounds tight with my axes. The 412 cabinet is extremely sensitive and I feel it has a really transparent tone, in other words, it really lets the sound of the amp/bass come through almost uncolored. I found the PH1k to be less bright, and IMO no more articulate than the 412. A good cabinet to compare the Mesa 412 to is the GK 412. The GK is similar, but might be a little less defined and more rock voiced (which is not a bad thing at all, the GK is actually, in some instances, a better cabinet depending on what sound I am in the mood for!).

What I have found, is that for the sound I like, the 400+/PH412 is TOO bright. I have not really been able to find the sound I like, but the 400+ did sound pretty killer through the PH1k. I think that the 400+ would sound best, IMO and for the sound I like, through a 215/ or maybe a 610 or 810. Too that end, as much as I like the GK, I may end up putting it up for sale for a 2-15 or 610.

Finally got finished with my 1990 Mesa/Boogie Bass 400+
I just retubed with JJ 6L6GC's and 3 JJ gold pin ECC83S and JJ gold pin ECC81 in Driver slot.
Touched up some rough spots with with some touch up paint and finally got a Mesa 4 space head case for it.
This particular 400+ has a 6 band EQ.

I have'nt been a big "club Joiner"... but I recently bought a Red-Faced Mesa Boogie Walkabout a couple months ago and have been so impressed with it, that iI decided to purchase a Mesa Boogie Titan V12 sight unseen or heard. In the pic below is my Walkabout powering a 4 ohm Genz Benz Uber 410 cab (with a customized front to match my other two cabs)...which is sitting on top of my GBE1200 head which is powering two 4 ohm EarCandy 212 BassBomb cabs. I've just sold my GBE1200 head and my Titan Head will be replacing it...it should get here in the next 7-10 days or so...I can't wait...reading :ninja: the manual already :hyper:!! Has anyone used a Titan to power an Uber 410 cab??How did they match up and sound??...I'll send pics and comments after the Titan gets here...but I guess this should be enough to get me in the "Club", huh? there will be no "Clash of the Titans here"...Peace...DAcat

DAcat, you'll love the Titan. I've never owned one, but I spent some time in a shop that was a mesa dealer and had *everything*. The Titan and Walkabout are similar, but not identical, (WA is smoother). Judging by how much I love my WA and Uber 212, I'd think the Titan and Uber 410 should match up quite nicely. Rock on.

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knows if mesa can update an amp to the newer specs if you have an older version. I was just wonder because I bought my big block 750 new about a 2 years ago and but I think it was made in 2005 according to the serial number. I don't think there were any new serious changes with that model but it would be cool to know if they do that.

AFAIK there WAS a sig. change in that the newer models do not require the pedal to use the OD channel or mute. Those controls are now available on the faceplate. IME Mesa can and will do the updates-I'd contact them if yours needs the pedal for these functions.

Sorry for the delay folks. Life and work have been crazy lately. Going through what I'm calling a "bass gear mid-life crisis" isn't helping much either.

Here's the most current list with all PM's responded too. If you still need a number, send me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
