Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

Yes, I missed that you were in the UK, doesn't show that info on my mobile device.

The UK distributor will be able to help you.

I'm glad this thread reminded me of the need to use contact cleaner when noise develops--my previously quiet Walkabout started to produce noise that sounded like an unshielded pickup soloed. I cleaned the input jack, speaker output jacks and most importantly the effects loop jacks (the head doesn't have a bypass switch) and it's quiet as a mouse now. Thank you, TalkBass and DeoxIt.

View attachment 2768929 Soooooo......what's that toggle switch for in the upper middle?
My WA came back from Mesa with exactly that same mod. Yep, a factory update, it's a switch in parallel with the effects jack switches which tend to be intermittent and cause problems, this is done along with converting the passive input jack on the front panel (under the active jack) to a switch.

How did you clean the jacks with the deoxit?

I can't think of a good reason for there to ever be a switch on a piece of equipment that doesn't have a label of some type that at least indicates position functionality, unless it's obviously a light switch, and most of the time even they're labelled.

Even when making a mod there are some best practices...or at least there used to be...

I have the spray can, which is harder to control than the liquid when you only want to release a small amount. So I spray as little as possible on a 1/4-inch plug and use the lid of the spray can as a catch basin for the overspray. I work the wet plug in and out of the jack several times and rotate it a little while I'm doing it; then pour a little of the pooled overspray from the lid on the plug and repeat a few times. I keep a cloth handy to dry up the inevitable drips.

Won't do a darned thing for the cause of the problem hpwever. There is a tiny switch inside the jack, THESE are what needs cleaning.

My WA 15 arrived yesterday. Got home late after rehearsal and opened the box. Released that sweet smell of HiFi like those JBL L100 speakers smelled when I unboxed them back in the 70´s.
No test drive though, as it was past midnight and I have neighbors ....
Working today, but this evening I´ll have a go.
I agree with all here that the ergonomics are stupid. That top handle is a joke. But if it sounds nice, I really don´t care. I can still carry this like a baby. And if there comes a day I can't , someone invented wheels I heard.
