My wa is still rocking hard. These times I am recording an album and for the sake of simplicity we used the DI out into a Audient DI in...I don't know if this connection is legit, but the tone has been out of this world. ..there is something primitively right about the WA tone. it does work from sub dub as well as overdriven rage

This is a reeeaaaally great sounding pairing.....it's glorious when the WA is on enough cab that it can be pretty much dimed.......need to cut the lowest lows a bit and then it's like maple butter for the ears .....

Well I finally got to test the WA through my CN212 with my band and it works great. It sounds so good, I can't believe I ever thought about selling the last one I had! It's one of the best sounding amps I have ever heard. At some point, I might just send it to Mesa for a checkup.

Now that I have both the WA and D800, I might spend a little time doing a side by side tone comparison. That should be interesting.

Do they receive and service amps of any age for refurbishment?

My understanding is that Mesa will service all amps the company has ever made and will continue to do so as long as parts are available.

+1. I’ve seen D-180s, Bass 400s old Mark 1s, etc sitting waiting for pickup at the Mesa Hollywood repair shop and those are all long out of production

I have both and have done this. To me they sound nothing at all alike. WalkAbout is full of sparkling life and grit. D-800 is very dry, and muted in the highs. A lot may depend on how and what you play, and EQ of course.

I love the WalkAbout, but am totally "meh" about the D-800.

Hmm… Could it be that the dings in your 'new' WA are punishment for selling your old WA? You know, gods of thunder an' all.

From personal experience I can assure you that a WA/CN212 combination is likely to put one huge smile on just about any WA owner's face. First time I tried them together I was shocked at how great the rig sounded. All I could think of was that this is what my WA Scout 112 always wanted to be when it grew up.

which is nice - I'm having to wait till payday to fix mine - I've been given a rough price for a new transformer of the equivent to US$ 400 then the techs costs

That's really expensive for a transformer! It is a toroidal type, I just bought a transformer from mesa for my DC-3 guitar amp, it was $180.

WA + CN212 - that's my set up as well. Great combination.
of course the WA also kicks some pretty serious booty thru an NV610 too

Been wanting to maybe switch up my cab setup with the WA. i love the 12 and have a 15 scout extension under it for grins and giggles but sorta jonesing for a Berg AE212 or CN212 (a bit pricier). Im a bit hesitant tho just because those mesa cabs are such gems! The WA with Berg 212s get a lot of love around here though.

Also while i hardly ever run the Scout 12+15 stack at 2ohms long/loud enough to worry about heat issues or sizzling the amp, it would be nice to have two speakers running at 4ohms and from the praise around here those Berg neo speakers sound oh-so-sweet.

Yes. It's a winning combination for sure. I had an AE212 + AE112 When I had my WA. Very very lotsa volume when using the 3 x 12"s and fine for most with just the 212

I've used mine one on top of the other but there is lots more bass extension with both cabs on the floor (not to mention near a corner). If you dial off bottom anyway it won't make much difference, but I love that pants shaking low bass that the Scout is known for. I ran my WA into 2 4ohm scout cabs for the last few years with no ill affect.

I did not know about this acoustic coupling. Is this due to the resonator downward-facing speakers in the cabs?

Yes the passive radiator is on bottom. Try it sometime, play the top cab stacked, then put it on the floor and play it again.

I don't believe this is true. Any cab can get an effect from acoustic and mechanical coupling with the floor, the Scout cabs are no different in that regard.
The passive radiator is just a way to tune the cab, like another form of porting, and has nothing directly to do with the "sound output" of the Scout cabs.

@agedhorse may come around and clarify this, but I'm pretty sure about what I said.

Just dropping in, as it's been a long while. Happy to still be in love with my Walkabout head. And, still have it paired with a GB Uber 212 cab. And still amazed with the sound, (and volume). At home, I run a stereo board into Walkabout left, and M3 Carbine right. The two amps pair so freaking well, and deliver the tone that's kept me Amp GAS free for many years. Good to "see you" all.
