Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

Yessir.
I ran two Mesa Diesel 115's, reloaded with 3015's for a while; it worked pretty well!
However, those were big, heavy boxes despite the neo driver swap, and, they didn't have horns, and I pretty much need more treble extension than that.
Good deal though, if you don't need horns.

I used mine in a diesel 2x15 for a while and it was very good, though still quite heavy. That was long before I had the WA. I used the B1500 most of the time.

And good point on the horns. I'm thinking of having LDS make some cabs for the 3015s and am debating putting a horn in one or both. Not a fan of tweeters for fingerstyle but they're so nice for slapping.

Back on point, will the WA have enough juice to drive the 3015s to the point where the drummer will hear the bass over his thrashing, and thus know where "one" is?:crying:....I digress

Thats exactly what i am doing in post # 319 above. It was an experiment that worked out great

I do have PA support.. But it gets pretty loud.. I didnt need too much on the master since PA was very hefty... Its my stage monitor.. But it is Louder than i expected. It was my first few times of running it at 4 ohms.. Im taking it out on this weeks run of dates and going to add another cab to bring it to 2.6 ohms.. The amp hardly even got warm at 4 ohms..
The rig sounds different when vertical. but when i have monitors i like them on the floor like this,,,
Two Genz cabs with 3015 type 15s...
We're doing some gigs with Paul rogers.. some larger arena types.. Ill take this out on those gigs too.. I need to rack the WA head though since the crew, not me moves the gear on those gigs..
I always found that the larger the room the less stage VOL i need since we have monitors... its the Bar gigs where i have to play to the room without PA that i need tons of power..

I had a B1500.. That is one loud mofo! Tone was nice too.. And i had Zero issues with it .. even running it at 2 ohms on HOT outdoor festival gigs. Great amp.. Its been years since i sold it. sadly.. The WA will not have the headroom of the B1500.. The WA is also much creamier than the B1500 but in a very good way...

Anyone play a WA with two 3015s (non-LF) in a loud band? I have yet to try that due to my doubts about the WA at 4 ohms providing enough power to keep up with a loud drummer. Have done many a gig with two 3015s and my B1500 but that's 1200 watts.

All this discussion over loud drummers has made me appreciate that this weekend, at least, I'm gigging *without* a drummer. I can just relax and enjoy the beautiful tone from the Walkabout without having to compete to be heard with a mix. (I believe we can take an acoustic guitar!)

The guy I'm backing is a monster player though... and I really enjoy gigging with him. We're playing a couple coffee houses in far southwest Virginia and a micro-brewery in east Tennessee tonight and tomorrow. Walkabout goes on a road trip. :)

For me, with 2 guitars, keys, bass and drums, rock band, no bass PA support, the WA would not power a 3015 cleanly; a DR. Bass 2x12 was just OK.
This is based on a 100 seat room.

In the end I sold it as I wanted more headroom.

After a low volume rehearsal last night I'm thinking of selling the 3015s and buying some 1x12 cabs instead. The 3015s sound better to me when fed a lot of power and I don't need the volume I used to. There's a Wizzy 12 M-line in the classifieds now. It's 4 ohms so I'd be down to 2 ohms if I got another. Not sure I'm really comfortable with that. A couple 8-ohmers might be better as I could add a third if necessary. Then there's always the svt210vs which really sound good to me but the form factor is weird with 2 of them...sorry for the rambling.

Very cool. Sounds like you need a lot more volume than I do at this point. 3x15!!!! Nice to know it can be done.

My fear is that with the small footprint of the AV's the whole stack would topple over.

It's not too bad, though definitely a bit "vertically extended."

Of course, just about any rig can topple over if you run into it, so don't run into it, and you should be fine. :D

Yessir: valid points.
I almost exclusively play "Two Tall" rigs.
I've never really worried about The Topple Factor, but, the 210AV cabs are fairly light.
However, my bass rig is usually well towards the rear of th stage, and pretty far from any tipsy patrons.

I've recently signed on with a 3 piece "power blues trio."
For the last couple gigs, and all rehearsals I've used either the Walkabout5 and a fEARFul 15/6/1, or LDS 6x8 stack (4x8+2x8).
So far, this has been pretty fun, and pretty workable.
I've got the Walkabout pushed about as far as I care to push it.
While overall it's clean enough, the low notes get compressed at points, and double stops and such definitely get grittier than I like, but it kinda fits in this context.

What is that epiphone amp?

When appropriate, I run either an Akai Uni-Bass or a Fishman Fission Bass pedal do generate an octave-up (with harmonics and some dirt) "rhythm guitar" signal, and the Epiphone Valve, Jr. and EA Wizzy 10 are my "guitar rig."
