Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

Wow what an amp. Loved it great tone . I will need to A&B it to my walk about but loved the tone.

I've played my Mesa/Boogie WD 800 into 2 Mesa/Boogie Subway 2x10 cab's (and more) for some days now...
My D 800 is now my spare.
I have an Eden WT 400 into a D 4x10 XLT or D 6x10 XLT.
I have a Mesa/Boogie Bass 400+ into a Mesa/Boogie Powerhouse 1000 (4x10/1x15).
I have a Mesa/Boogie Bass Prodigy into a Mesa/Boogie Traditional 4x10.
I have a Little Mark II into an MarkBass 2x10 and MarkBass 4x10.
I have a Mesa/Boogie D 180 into a Mesa/Boogie Diesel 1x15.
Summary: The WD 800 front panel reminds me of the Eden WT400 layout. I found my bass tone with my passive Fender 4's and active MusicMan SR5's with very little effort. There is plenty of volume and excessive tone in the parametric and bass/mid/treble/HPF section. Damping makes each cabinet push air differently. The WD 800 is a great sounding amp! Plenty of tone, plenty of amplitude. Everyone should have one...

What with all the new WD 800 talk and seeing as how it was raining here today, I plugged in my old Walkabout red face and played for a few hours. Really nice to plug this thing in and realize how freaking great it is. It was also the first time I was able to hook up the 12 and 15 and experience the Walkabout in its full Glory. Anyway, I got nothing really more to say.

I have the same set up!!E53C17A3-DDE9-4898-B79E-5EC0A6272CDA.jpeg

What would be really cool is if Mesa made Subway Cabs with the downfiring passive radiator like on the Scout cabs...here we go again..:woot::smug:

Well.....I don't think the passive radiator needs a rebirth.....BUT......the formula of a 112 cab with a slot for the Walkabout became a classic for several reasons......in addition to tone.....the aesthetics and modularity were all aces.....and whereas the original 112 combo weighed close to or slightly over 50 lbs........a V 2.0 would likely tip the scales at closer to 40 lbs.......with a head bracket ( a la Genzler) to allow easy rear panel access.....available in those uber sexy Mesa Custom Shop finishes......juss sayin' / daydreamin'/ stirrin' da pot......

My Scout (12” 8 ohm cab) has a port + passive radiator.

I had one opened up the other day, a pretty fancy looking Eminence driver, has a very interesting phase plug design. Are they neo or ceramic? Anyone know what their power rating is?

I bought my Walkabout ‘full stack’ used, as three separate purchases. The head is silver with black (not brown), and has the factory updates on the front and rear.

The top cab has black piping around the grill. The bottom one has grey piping. Both have the large heavily textured black tolex.

This is the rear of the top cab, the one I mounted the head in. Has a deluxe user control panel off to the right.

This is the rear of what I am using as the extension cab. Port is on the other side, has one user control in the middle.

I had a few different Scout 12 cabs and speakers over the years- all the 8ohm speakers were Eminence Deltalite II 2512 and all the 4ohm speakers were Eminence Deltalite (NOT II) 12s. You can tell the original Deltalite by its vented dustcap. Interestingly (as I recall), though the Walkabout would be putting more power through the 4ohm speaker it had a lower power handling and less bass response in the graphs than the newer Deltalite II in the 8ohm cabs. Not sure if Mesa ever commissioned a 4ohm version of the Deltalite II (or if that would even be a possibility), but I never saw any. I heard later generations were all ceramic after Neo prices started spiking.

Randomly I was wondering about my 4 ohm cab and took the front grill off and wondered what was going on with the vented dust cap.

Anyone know how loud the cab can go? I’m tempted to build an additional cab to use instead but it’s a question of if it would be an improvement or just different

I've used both the 12" combo and 12" extension for far more gig, without PA, than I'd have believed by looking at it.

Of course it'll depend on the music and the mix.

If you're going for volume and punch/presence, IME the 12" is preferable to the 15".

I'm talking Scout cabs here, not Subway.

Cab the head is mounted in (top cab, the one with deluxe user controls on rear)
12” neo driver
6.3 DCR
Looks like an 8 ohm 2512 Deltalite II
Eminence presently lists a 2512 Deltalite(R) II. Not sure what their ‘R’ denotes.

My extension cab (bottom cab, the one with simple user control on rear)
12” ceramic driver
5.8 DCR
Front looks like a 2512 Deltalite I. Doesn’t look like any familiar driver at all from the rear. Number on the cone is the same as the 2512 Deltalite I neo that @sunbeast mentioned that be sold in the link he posted.

As long as they play well together, all’s good with me. They seem to sound fine together.

Are you certain the extension cab is actually 8 ohms? Its hard to find the info for legacy speakers, but I only seem to remember seeing the original Deltalite as a 4ohm speaker. Could definitely be wrong! Edit- that DCR seems right for an 8ohm speaker
