Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Part 10

The sonic blue one is my signature Alleva Coppolo KBP4.. Lightweight hand built old froth alder body to 60s spec. JImmy copied my 63 jazz neck.
The other is just a Fender Road Worn P Bass that is super nice.. I that that one overseas with me all the time I don't have to really worry if anything happens to it . Its lightweight and just a great bass. I got it used for about $500

Awake?, Im in Texas now. I live here most of the time.
I dont have to gig until tomorrow afternoon. Its my day job.. .which is sometimes my afternoon job or night job. Depends..
So I am a night owl . And putting off / procrastinating recording two 30 second sound pieces thats are due friday. Just one of those days . I should get to work. But Im doing hooky tonight

I don't want to get in trouble for going OFF topic but since you asked here it is. Its been to 4 continents.. Its been played

What’s that pale blue bass? I can’t figure out what it is. Headstock looks a bit Lakeland, but it doesn’t look like it has Lakeland written on it.
Also the other bass headstock doesn’t quite look Fender and it doesn’t quite look Sandberg either.
Plus, why are you awake in NY at this hour?

Haha cool, and thanks for the info.

$500 for a P Bass? Wow!!

Where in Texas? I stopped in Elgin just outside of Austin a few years back.

7am here and I’m just getting up to put the coffee on.
6 days off starting today, and loads of work to do on the house.

Thanks for the extra info and pics.

I’d not heard of Alleva Coppolo Before so I’ve just been googling. Seems like the sort of guy I’d get a bass made by if I was in such a position.

Did you ever go to the cheese shop?

I thought it was sonic blue btw, but didn’t say, as things can look different in pics, and it might just as easily have been foam green lol.

I have a non original ‘1959 Fender Stratocaster. Part of it’s non original nature is that I don’t think they started using sonic blue until around ‘62.

Right, gotta get that coffee on :)

still need a hybrid so Im picking up an Ashdown abm600. Those amps hold their bottom well even under duress, They go deep and sound full.. It isn't a WA either But it sort of checks off some of the boxes that i like.
Common thread with the WA and the ABM 600 is Ya just plugin... and there it is... That full sound...
Odd amps the ABM stuff, a lot of the ash down “big bottom” sound seems to be in the preshape filter rather than in a design built to sound like a valve amp that the Walkabouts going for - with the switch off (normally the opposite way round to switches being on/off) it initially sounds like it’s lost some of its “sound” - but is way more articulate and sits in the mix nicely. Good amps mind.
I used to have a Hughes and Kettner QT600 and would love to try one again to compare to the Walkabout.

I don't know, but I've had a Margarita or two in THE CLOAK ROOM on Colorado
Street. An excellent little hidey hole.

The CHeese shop! Oh Yes , the Alleva Cheese.. That was actually owned by Jimmy Coppolo's Grandma.. I found an old empty metal Cheese pail on Ebay one day and sent it to him .. He has it in his workshop in LA now

Just to further the OT biz ;)

I've got an '08 Road Worn Precision. And I agree they're, light, resonant beauties. Mine's totally stock standard. .. apart from some Roto tapes on it at present, but I think I'll put some rounds on next and let em age.... I seem to remember that I had old rounds on it years ago and it was lovely.
OT..... it sounds great thru the WA!

WD-800 rack ears are now in stock (yes, finally).

Rackmount Kit - Subway WD-800

For all you Walkabout owners who have been patiently waiting for Walkabout ears, these new 1 piece ears are backwards compatible to the original Walkabouts as well. Silver faced WA owners note that unfortunately, they are only available in black.

All I get is a "404 Not Found" message at that link, amigo!

Thinking on selling my 12 inch 8 ohm scout cab, older style. What is a good price.

I've sold two and purchased two and the selling and buying prices were $350 + shipping. All were 4 ohm cabs and were in pristine condition. A $400 ask with a $350 take (plus shipping) should work for you.

The WA extension cabs are the ones with the well-deserved higher prices. I'm still wanting one of those in 8 ohms.

Hello from Belgium
I am the new happy owner of a Walkabout Scout 12 (second hand, silver front panel, active/passive switch).
During my first rehearsal (first time at high volume), I have had the same problem as other owners : the volume faded twice a few seconds and then it was fine for the last hour... I have now plugged a patch cable in the fx loop and the switch is now on "bypass". As a preventative measure, I have also changed the tubes for fresh new ones (from TubeAmpDoctor in Germany). I tried it at home at low volume (because of wife and neighbors...) and the problem didn't come back. I don't have the possibility to test it at high volume now and I wonder if the problem is fixed.

Question : is the problem linked with the volume level ?
