Doggone. I was going to corner the market in Scout cabinets.

For those who may be wondering what I use in place of the Scout 1x15, here's a pic of the head on a pair of Genz-Benz 10T boxes. Forty-five pounds (13+16+16) versus 65 for the combo, and I can move them one at a time.

Like the Godin A5 too... I'll be using my fretless A5 this very weekend... hopefully, through your old Scout 15.

Had to open up my older Walkabout last night... went to install it in a Scout 15 combo cab and heard a screw rolling around inside the head.

Turned out to be one of the allen screws that secures the faceplate/knob guard to the faceplate. Wouldn't you know, it'd be the bottom-left one (underneath the input jack or input toggle switch) that's dang near *impossible* to reinstall without removing the whole freakin' circuitboard.

Hour and a half of tense, frustrating moments later (and a drop of blue loctite!) and I had it back together. :whew:

(and yes, I tightened the other three as well... piece of cake)

OTOH, I'm really liking the bigger scout cab in the practice room. Will be doing an upright gig tonight, and a stoopid-loud music festival with bass guitar tomorrow afternoon, followed by a wedding reception where I have to cover "Tupelo Honey". Hmmm... older folks I assume.

But I digress. What a pain in the head that little job was.

So just recently acquired my first 5 string and loving it so far but for some reason I'm getting some farting when I hit my low string which is tuned to A.

My set up is a Walkabout through a Bergie CN 212. Could it be possible that the CN212 just can't handle such low tuning or can it be the walkabout?

Just got back from a gig where the soundman (as has been said many times here) raved about my Walkabout (through 2 Ampeg SVT-210AVs). At the sound check on Friday he said he loved it and then again today (unsolicited) he said, "Bands come in here with these gigantic bass amps and none of them sound as good as this little rig."

I use my WA allot.. One of the Best sounding little amps that i ever played.. easy to dial in a sound actually . i dont think there is a bad sound that can come from it..

Do you have any preamp effects/pedals going direct into the WA input? The only time I had that problem was when I didn't use the effects loop, and something was clipping from the hot signal from my 5er (EMG BQC). If I turned the volume down on the bass, it stopped. Running thru the effects loop solved the problem.

No effects at the moment. Just bass straight into walkabout. It only happens with my low A string. Could it just be that the CN212 wasn't designed to go soo low?

That is pretty low. Although I don't know anything about those speakers, I hear folks say other speakers strain with the low B let alone an A. Do you have the Bass or lows in the EQ on the amp boosted or even flat?

For the most part they've been flat with the bass rolled off to about 11 o'clock. Still getting it, even at moderate volumes. I think it may be time to go cabinet shopping again, metal project coming up.

The low notes on my Turner Electroline 535 will do that too, (has a screaming hot 18v preamp) though I'm using various combinations of Scout cabs. (which fart fairly quickly)

Try dialing back the input gain to about 11:00, and then roll off some sub-60 hz with the parametric. That low A should be around 55 hz.

Have you tried your amp with another bass?

Have you checked the battery in your bass (if an active pickup)?

Only with my prior 4 string. Sounded incredible just like my current 5 string. It's just that low A string lol

^^ That's *seriously* low...

There's some muckety-muck studies out there claiming that sub 40 hz starts making weird stuff happen to our brains. I don't know if they figured bass players into the equation.
