Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread part Four!

Check this out...This references the fan mod I've done on mine. So far, not a single problem. I've run it at 2-ohms for an entire set and it didn't feel any warmer than it did before with the sunon fan.

I still think the Walkabout is my favorite amp ever. I've had some heavy hitters too. Speakons, a few hundred more watts, and I think that would be the next generation of Walkabout. I'd buy it too.

The problem; or, one problem; is that there is no more room in the smallish Walkabout chassis for more power. It's full up.

So, a more powerful Walkabout really is a ground up re-design.

I soooo wouldn't care if it turned into a true two rack space chassis.

I had an interesting experience last Friday. I attended a do with my lady friend and there, on the bandstand, was a jazz band consisting of a guitarist with a George Benson Ibanez, a friend who plays keyboards and sings, another friend on sax, an unknown drummer, and the guy who recommended the Mesa/Boogie Walkabout Scout to me, the last playing a Music Man StingRay 5 "family reserve" I think he called it.

I play a Fender American Vintage '57 P through mine, and it has a wonderful, warm present tone with a lot of punch. Friday night, though, I was hearing the "perfect" jazz standard tone (Watermelon Man, Sentimental Journey, The Best is yet to Come for samples), and this with a StingRay!

It made an impression on me. I think I'll keep my M/B....

The Ball Family Reserve are the snottiest of the MM line.

I've never met a MM I liked, which is a long lasting disappointment to me, as I'm a huge Leo fan...but yeah...I know that tone you speak of.

Last time I saw Sade, I believe that's the setup her bass player was using.
Somehow, it works for those two guys. The MM stuff is well crafted, and ergonomically pleasing to me, but never had enough mid presence, for me, personally.

Gimmee an L2500 every time over the MM stuff.

I was sorry to see they didn't work out for you. This is what makes the world go round. :cool:

I'm an admitted Music Man fanboy so take this for what it's worth. In series mode, I've never had a problem with too little mids. I find the WA and MM a wonderful match.

Still on the hunt for my perfect one cab solution for both my WA and M6.

The UL410 can be a little too big down low, sometimes.
The Hnery 8x8 is great, but a drag to move.
My LDS cabs are great! (2x8, 4x8)

I'm gonna try an AE212 next, I think.
