I really liked and miss the one I had, and I'm getting temped to get another one soon because this is the power range I need. But I just couldn't quite get my old one to sonically work right in a dual rig setup with my Bass 400 (A-clean/B-dirty). It was either too much bassy or too much high mids and some frequencies dropping...weird because I didn't have any sonic issues doing the A/B thing with my old GK400RB.
As a stand alone head I loved the WA. So maybe the 2nd time around I should play with some other brand preamp tubes to see if I can dial them in better.

Just been playing my new fretless Stingray through my Walkabout/Scout 12 and reminding myself of how absolutely wonderful this rig is. I have been using the head with other cabs for quite awhile but slipped her back into the combo cab and am still amazed at how full and rich this setup is. I have yet to hear a Scout with another matching extension cab but am thinking that I could make do quite nicely for most of my playing situations with just my Walkabout combo and a matching cab. best gear purchase I ever made!

I've posted it umpteen times. Like all conventional 12s (ie, not long-throw drivers with longer x-max) it maxes out somewhere around 175 watts. The 4 Ohm version adds nothing useful. I have 4 and 8 Ohm boxes and have A/B'ed them for volume; there's no difference, other than the marketing on paper. If you want more volume, the most logical solution is an 8 Ohm Scout 12 combo with an 8 Ohm ext cab OR a larger, 4 Ohm ext cab like a 212 or 115. The Scout 15 is another matter, as it CAN get louder up to the max output of the Walkabout. IME the sweetest pairing for my 8 Ohm WA 12 combo was an Epi UL310. Its' 5.3 Ohm impedance was a great match: total rig impedance of 3 Ohms with good distribution of power to all 4 drivers in the stack. The 310 is a very mid-scooped cab, and I eq'ed accordingly.

I purchased the GK Neo 112 II's as a more portable solution for some gigs. However, I just was not happy with my tone using them with the GK MB500. It was very bright and although the low end was good, I just could not warm up the tone. Furthermore, I found I didn't like it at all with my brighter basses. Guys like Chef turned me onto the Walkabout and it has been great. It is so tubey and warm, that it really brought that element to the GK's. Even my ash Will Lee and US Spector both with stainless steel strings suddenly sounded fat and warm.

These cabs are vintage in tone by no means, but they really make for a versatile and portable rig with the Walkabout. Fat, warm, low mid punch and plenty of versatility tonewise to go from vintage to modern with the great EQ. I am loving this rig!

Beautiful tone, beautiful package. My only critiques so far is that there is no discussion in the manual of the player control network. I've been using the bright setting and my ears are totally diggin' it. :cool: The other critique - you can't register on-line. Oh well, I can still afford a stamp.
