Said so in the original manual, I've posted quotes from Mesa employees verifying stress testing in every part of each megathread.
search for posts by me, you'll find it.

I ran mine at 2 ohms ( with the Scout cab & an AE112 & an AE212) for a 3 hr gig on Sat. The WA handled it FINE. WAS FREAKIN loud- I was barely running the Master vol. past 9 0clock, & it was only SLIGHTLY warm at the end of the night.

Previous week I ran it with 3 x 12"s -at a 2.67 ohm load- same. LOUD, & VERY slightly warm after a 3 hr gig.

Recorded with the beast today. A few discoveries. First, the DI sound is remarkably representative of the cab close mic'd on axis with an SM57. Really surprised. Used the 12 Scout. Second, the amp is basically unusable when close micing the cab. Why? Fan noise is a bitsch. This is obviously an overstatement, but the mic easily picked up the fan motor pre takes and in silences. Nothing a long speaker cable can't fix. Third, it sounded absolutely glorious on this punkish project I'm playing these days. Pbass with flats. Fingers. Just delicious.

Again, the only amp that has ever killed my GAS, though the little Aggy might give it a run for its money.

I wouldn't worry about the preamp tubes wearing out in just 4 years- they can last decades. If you are looking for some different tones, there are plenty of different flavors available. Tom Bowlus did a preamp tube comparison with his Walkabout a couple years back, and there are plenty of other experiences in the WA megathreads. I think your tubes will be cheaper from a source other than Mesa, and you can't guarantee you're getting the same tubes from Mesa as what you currently have anyway as they switch around sources quite a bit.

You bet I will.And sorry Ive just browsed through the WA threads and totally missed this.This sparks my interest in this head again.I played one in a local store and loved it,just didnt figure it would handle some of the louder gigs.Being able to add another 4ohm cab may open up some possibilities.

It's not just lagging; it's getting lapped IMHO. It wouldn't matter to me if it weren't for my 8 Ohm LDS 15-6 which is screaming for a 500 watt at 8 Ohm Walkabout:bawl:

I too would like to see a higher powered WA. However, I'm glad that it works for me in most situations in it's current configuration. It really would be perfect if it was 600 watts.

I'm fortunate enough to generally always have PA support and when I do, the WA gets the call. When I'm not sure if I get PA support, I grab the WA and the M6 comes along for the ride just in case.:cool:

We have our own PA and I often go through it, but sometimes, depending on venue and crowd, we get loud. The 165 watts through 8 Ohms won't suffice for those occasions. As a result I have a Carbine BUT if I had a 500 watt (or even 400) into 8 Ohm Walkabout it could be my only head for playing out and I would/could sell the Carbine

I'm currently using a 4ohm PH212. It sounds great, but I'm looking for a GB Neox 212T. I also use the WA Scout Stack at 2ohms, but I would like to go to the Neox. Verticle array and the WA will appreciate the 4 ohm load in the long run.

I'll most likely keep a Scout cab around just because they sound so darn good.

I've got a WA 12 coming tomorrow. Picked it up as a used/demo unit from Sweetwater. This megathread has helped bring me up to speed so much quicker, from Ohms/cabs, to tubes, to the accessories (headcase!!!). I can't wait to get my hands on this mama and start tweaking it.

BTW, this is replacing an SWR WorkingPro 12, and it's my first taste of toob.

Tomorrow, I take my first big drink of the Mesa cult Kool-Aid. :hyper:
