Yes, I had to duck and cover a lot while amassing the ridiculous collection of gear, but you are right, once you get so much crap, then it really isn't very obvious when you add more to the collection.

Plus...don't you have an office for that "extra" stuff?

I have our music room which has a drum kit, electric piano, jingle jangles, a couch, and my bass corner. Only so much stuff will fit in that bass corner. You should have seen my wife's face the first time I rolled my Mesa PH 6x10 and my Ampeg 810e in there. She asked me, "can't you keep some of that in the garage?" I said, "no way!" I'm still alive...but barely.

I find that the best bet is just to say nothing, and in case she ever actually notices and asks about it, just say, "Oh that? I've had that for a while, now."

carvin.com 50 bucks. I keep my rig in the practice/laundry room on one as well, and bring one to gigs so that when some particle physicist decides we need to switch stage positions-I just roll it on over, or rotate it, or whatever

First rehearsal this evening with a new hip hop band. The Scout played two roles: one as a bass amplifier, one as an amplifier for my Rhodes. Two basses were used: a six-string MTD and a P-bass with flats. Sounded a little strange with the MTD -- much to my surprise, actually -- and the P-bass was bliss. Sat well in the mix, but the MTD just sounded funny. Could have probably benefitted from some semi-parametric fiddling.

The Rhodes I am torn on. Obviously, it's not designed to be a vintage keyboard amp, but I thought I might have success. It was simply overwhelming in the mix: muddy, muddy, muddy. Solo, it sounded alright, but it just overwhelmed the mix with yuck (which was coming through a Shuttle 6.0/GS112 rig). I tried fiddling with so many settings, but nothing really worked on the go.

As anyone knows, a Rhodes is notoriously difficult to fit into a mix. It's muddy, deep and has a shrill upper end with a gap almost all the way to the low mids. Just couldn't find my hole with the Walkabout.

I will say, though, that the tube pre was a thing of beauty. That gooey touch-sensitive preamp works really well with keyboards, and makes me want to try my Rhodes through the fabled Twin Reverb.

Still love it. Just starting to see that my initial views of its versatility were probably overstated in my mind. My favourite P-bass with flats rig yet. (Though, I've got to say, the P with the Shuttle 6 with the GS112 stack sounds killer!)

I bought my WA 12 about a month ago from a fellow TB'er. It really is an incredible little combo. I have been using it exclusively in my band rehearsals, and I just used it last weekend at a gig. My drummer is in love with it, and I had several people tell me at the show that it was the best bass tone they have ever heard. I played my 73 Gibson LP Sig bass with it.

I'd seriously consider trying the Rhodes with the WA head and another cab. Juss sayin'. IMO the Scout cabs are great, but not nearly as versatile or magical as the WA head. When I play my WA through a pair of Wizzy 12s it's a different beast entirely.

Chapter 7 from "Secret Life of Bass" discusses how to use cab covers, racks, and cases to make all of your gear look like "a bunch of black boxes" - which, in addition to the slimming properties of being dressed in black, also makes your gear less easy to distinguish from one another.
