Mesa Boogie Walkabout Mega-thread Pt. Tres

Chef, isn't your M6 supposed to be in a 3U or 4U rack space ? It says in the manual that there should be at least 1" or 2" free space above the amp.

If not, I'll be happy to transfer mine from my 4U rack to a 2U.

I've run both my M6 and M9 in that same case with no issues whatsoever, even whipping it like a rented mule at 2 ohms.
Vic runs his in that same case, as do several others.

You'll get more direct answers from other users besides me in the M6 and M9 megathreads

I have the headcase and one SVT210AV cab . . . but I lay the cab sideways on top of a 1x15 cab, and put the WA on top of that, for a nice robot-snowman effect. It's secure enough for me and doesn'l look silly (other than the 1x15 being blonde tolex and the 210 and WA being black). But the feet of the headcase do extend a little beyond the edge of the 210 cab - this might be a problem with a vertical 210.

If Chef doesn't have a pic, when I get home tonight I can set it up that way and take one.

By the way, Petersmith, do you find you get enough low-end oomph with just the single 210? I tried it that way and it sounded good (when does the WA ever sound BAD?) but I missed the bottom-end "warm blanket" of the 15 . . . the two cabs play very nicely together.

"nice robot-snowman effect"

there goes my coke, thanks!

the 210AV, IME, doesn't deliver a deep low end, but it does deliver a nice low mid punch that cuts thru a mix real well. If you're looking for deeeep, it's not a great choice.

Awwww no you don't. My experience does not a quorum make.
Go get you some more info and make an educated decision!

And just to be real honest, my first Fathom, and my first M6 both barfed, several times before Mesa customer service made good and sent me a thrid, brand new M6. Buuuuut, I don't think what they were racked in was at all part of their problem.

uhhh...might have pix of that, lemmee check

nope, sorry...but, yeah, think it hangs over a bit.

lucky for you, there's a great solution: buy a second 210AV and stack 'em longways! that's a beautiful match for the walkabout.

That's the plan! I need to sell some stuff before I can manage that of course, since I just blew me gear fund on a Stingray HH. Speaking of which, the 'Ray KILLS through the WA/210AV combo. The head/cab reigns in some of the highs from the 'Ray, and really smooths it out. I got such a good deal on the 'Ray I was going to resell it, but then I made the mistake of playing it. ;)

I'll let you know after this weekend. I've yet to use the single 210 at show volume, but I'll be doing so this weekend at a couple gigs. I'm not worried since I'll have PA support, but hearing myself could be an issue.

As far as lows go, I'm not a fan a super huge deep lows. I prefer the low-mid punch that Chef described... at least I think I do. My only experience with anything other than 10s has been my old Ampeg combo that had a 15 in it. That was ok, but I'd take 10s over that thing. Still, my experience isn't the most comprehensive in the speaker size department.

Billy B . . . the picture of the back really doesn't convey how the head is secured. It really just "rests" against that black upside-down-U frame you see in the photos . . . but the head is actually secured by an internal wooden "cap" that hugs the WA head on the top and a little bit on each side, and is then bolted to the frame via 4 long steel bolts. As Chef says, it's a little weird . . . but very secure.

. . .

Thanks! I envisioned it would be something like that...at least that's what I'd come up with if I was to build a headcase for the amp (and may very likely do just that).
