The bag is nice, if a very snug fit. Has a pouch big enough to hold my cables and korg mini tuner.

I'm with Chef...I use the Mesa Vintage Headcase and love it! It does add some weight, but the added weight is offset by the "coolness" factor!
You can order rack-ears from Mesa that will then fit a standard 2U single rack bag or any rack . . . but it's something like $65 for the ears, plus whatever you want to pay for the rack bag . . . I had just placed an order for the ears when I came across a used Mesa headcase for $100 bucks . . . cheaper than the ears + rack bag, and IMO WAAAY cooler-looking . . . see Chef's pix on page 1 of this thread . . . .

That's right, Chef! Thanks for clarifying the point. In my post I should have gone on to say that when I scored the head case, I cancelled the order for the rack ears.

And, are the knobs protected enough or do they need to be pushed in? I have a first generation Walkabout and (as you already know) the knobs don't push in like the latest version.
It's set back about the depth of the knobs.
It's not the greatest protection, clearly, but, I think it's pimp and I'm pretty careful with things.

Don't the knobs on the black face Walkabouts click in an out? I seem to recall that at least some of them do when I was messing with a Walkabout Scout at Guitar Center a couple months ago...
Also, I was asking if you have a photo of the back of the headcase with the Walkabout installed. I'd like to see how they secure the head in there.... Thanks!

Yeah, 30 pounds isn't bad at all, coming from a 60 pound Peavey VB-2. I'm just debating whether the head case would look silly on top of my SVT 210AV cab. The head alone is just about a perfect fit as is, and I think the case would stick out on the sides.

Billy B . . . the picture of the back really doesn't convey how the head is secured. It really just "rests" against that black upside-down-U frame you see in the photos . . . but the head is actually secured by an internal wooden "cap" that hugs the WA head on the top and a little bit on each side, and is then bolted to the frame via 4 long steel bolts. As Chef says, it's a little weird . . . but very secure.
It's really not much additional protection for the controls . . . but Mesa does also sell a thick nylon slip-cover for the headcase - I use that when transporting - gives a LITTLE protection to front . . . at least as long as I'm the one handling the equipment . . .which I am (where are those damn roadies?). I suppose if you were really nervous you could slip a piece of foam under the slipcover . . .
