Jared, if you're looking for the lightweight single cab solution for the WA head, seriously, check out GB's Uber line. They're not sealed, but them Ubers have a similar magic in them, like Mesa puts in their amps. The Uber 212/WA pairing is DOUBLE magic.

But I WAS on a holiday with the wife & dont think she'da been too happy with me going for another bass tone quest at THAT particular time :-) One day maybe. THANX.

I LOVE my WA Scout 12- seriously!!! But I Still LOVE the LMII > Berg AE112 for a 'MODERN' tone. Both are keepers at the moment for me!!

I used the WA scout with my tapewound loaded Precision last night- BLISS!!!!!


Thanx for the descriptions re the B15 & the WA too. Interesting.

I played my EBMM SR5 with with flats thru my WA Scout 15 at church yesterday.......3 hours of holy bliss.Bongo5 HH and Dingwall Combustion sound superb with the Mesa also!

Only tried it as a combo with the AE112 & I really like this. That is the WA scout combo running the AE112 as an ext. spkr. Sounds great. I like the way the AE is pretty neutral sounding & the WA scout 12" is 'vintage-ey' sounding & together U can get a great mix.

Yeah, I'm surprised by the booty AND volume from the WB's 300 Watt output. I may rack it at some point, but in the near future I think I'll just get the case for it. Then perhaps it won't look so tiny atop the Berg.

Thanks, I certainly dig it. I've played the NV215 and NV610 but while I tried them with the same two heads, I don't own either at this point so I can't truly compare them. But I dug the 610 (truly the "modern" update to the Ampeg fridge IMO) and the 215, though it was "brighter" than I expected, due to that midrange driver I suppose.

The 412 has more bottom than the 610 and it (IMO) is also more aggressively voiced, which I really dig. It was okay with the Carvin BX1200 and GK 1001RB-II (both of which are likely sold) and pretty good with the TecAmp Puma 1000 but it sounds absolutely fantastic with the Walkabout.

Sealed/ported isn't a huge deal for me. But I want a cab that either has a defeatable tweeter or lacks them altogether. Effects (especially fuzz and envelope filters) are just too harsh with a tweeter and I don't need that airy top end. I know some dig the extra "sparkle" but it ends up being too clacky and transmitting too much finger noise for my purposes.

That said, a lightweight 212 would be great for smaller gigs and the GB looks like a great solution. My preference was for a full range, 4 ohm 15" without a tweeter but I may have to look into the Uber 212 as well.

I just got back form an inspiring (but loud)Practice with both guitarists firing wide-open, one playing thru two Fender tube amps and the other thru 2 Fender tube amps and a Vox tube amp...our drummer had his drums miced overhead and inside the bass drum...we have 4 loud PA cabs...
2 singers...we use 4 PA cabs altogether-2 18'x10
cabs, and 2 212 cabs all with horns...all I had was my MTD Z4 bass plugged into my Sansamp VT1 box => Walkabout head powering an EarCandy 212 cab( these cabs have no tweeter)...and I was still abe to easily drive this powerful rootsy blues -rock band with head room to spare...deep ,penetrating tone...but I got to admit that the VT1 helps .When we play our live gig next week in the town square I'll use the WA to power my Genz Benz Uber 410 cab and use my Mesa Titan V12 to power 2 EarCandy 212s...I agree that the Uber cabs also sound awesome with the WA...Peace...DAcat :cool:

Slightly off-topic, but last night I played at our practice space, where I keep my Fender Bassman 400. I tuned up the ol' P, plugged it in, and was rewarded with the muddiest sound I can remember hearing coming out of my bass. A guy who plays with the owner of the room had come by for their rehearsal and had turned all the bass controls all the way UP (including the "room balance") and had pushed in the "active" button to give his MIM Jazz some extra...something, I guess. He's never sounded anything but muddy on the bandstand and now I think I know why.

The other guys asked me what the hell had happened! Luckily the Fender is fairly easy to dial in (but not as easy as the WAS, which mostly requires plugging in a bass and turning it on).

Uhh, :hiding: What was that You said? :D Well-since it will be outdoors, where we'll be playing the gig I mentioned, the PA is only going to handle vocals and Drums, it really wont be that loud since the guitars and bass won't be going thru the PA...and I won't be turned up that loud any way...not nearly as loud as the good old days :p when touring :bassist: using 2 or 3 Acoustic 360s in the late 60s-70s because we had no good PA support at bigger gigs...and I still have next to perfect hearing (I've never stood in front of guitar :eek: or bass stacks and always tried to keep my distance from loud drums)...and ...yes to earplugs ;) nowadays...Peace...DAcat
