Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

Nope, but they're different beasts :)

This is my worry. I'm so used to the Ampeg tone and I do love it. I got to play an M9 Carbine recently and it was great but I didn't get to properly test it out as much as I'd like. I know the M9 has the added EQ and compressor but I don't need those and the 600 watts of the M6 would be plenty for me. But my worry is if it would sound as big and fat as the SVT 4 does?

I would appreciate that, and if you're geting rid of your case I would more than likely take it off your hands.

I didn't make it to the studio today, but I'll make note of the knob thing when I'm there next. I'm pretty sure the case sticks out farther than the knobs though. The Mesa case is definitely sexy and looks particularly nice on top of a Mesa cab. I keep going back on forth on switching to a rack or rack bag. I'll be sure to let you know if I decide to get rid of it.

I don't have any experience with the SVT 4, but the M6/M9 doesn't remind me of any of the Ampeg stuff I have played through. I've heard it described as the Mesa for guys who don't like Mesa and as their least tube sounding head. That said, I love my M6.

Ok thanks. I'm going to order a Warwick 2u rack case tomorrow anyway. Would still be interested in the Mesa case if you do decide to sell it as well. The Warwick case can be had for around $60 or so. I checked one out in the store and it seemed pretty decent. Good price anyhow.

Anyone ever use on of these?

The M6 is DEFINITELY big and fat for sure.

The headcase thing looks killer but I am a big fan of carrying mine in 3-space rack bag. It has just worked out great for me. ;)

I'm seriously considering selling my Ampeg SVT 4 Pro to buy a new M6 Carbine. Am I crazy!?

haha im in this exact same predicament. I found the 2x12 combo for a nice used price but i'm still having trouble finding a buyer for the head or full 810(herculined) rig. the svt 4 pro was too much and im coming to find that no matter how much i try i just dont get a tone i love. No matter how hard i try i never get that signature ampeg tone and its not worthing carrying around 200 lbs of amp and a couple bucks of gear extra if i dont get the tone i like. It's a great amp but fromt he sounds of it the carbine is more of something i would enjoy. :hmm:

Whereas I do love the tone from the Ampeg! Maybe I'm a bit silly for even considering getting rid of it. But the M6 is so damn tempting, the tone from the M9 was beautiful when I played through it.

go for gold and keep the ampeg and buy the mesa! from what i've read it seems that they would have pretty different tone so you would have options... and an empty wallet/full credit card
