Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

Hi brothers in bass, just got my brand new M6 and I am totally blown away by the tone (even if using my not so good 15 cab).

There is one question I wanna ask all of you M6 users. The first time I pull the bass knob after turning the amp on, I get a clicking sound in the speaker as if I was ungracefully unplugging my bass the amp still on. If I push the button and pull it out later on, no more click, is that normal? My workaround for now is to mute the amp before I pull the switch the first time.

Anyone else has this?

I will try it tomorrow at band practice, really looking forward to it.

BASSically yours,
Mike

CONGRATS! That is a KILLER bass amp. No question. None. Don't have the answer to the weird Popping/clicking sound however. Keep us posted.

I am going to pull the trigger on a new M6 Carbine on Saturday. I gigged with my friends M6 Carbine twice last week and it sounds amazing. That simple. A tone monster for my bass and cab. (Nordstrand Nordy Vj5/Bergie AE410)

They still have a new one at the pre-price increase pricing. Here is my anal question. The one the shop has is a floor model and they don't have the original box. ...I am anal about that stuff and really want the box for future reference. Does that matter to you guys? The box however is not worth $100 I'll be saving.

I only like to have the box if I think I'll be selling something. The M6 is not one of those items. I bought mine new as well, but would not have minded finding a clean used one. There is one in the classifieds now from a guy I have purchased from before. He is pretty meticulous with things. I purchased a first generation WA and he had all the paper work, hang tags, warranty form, etc. Not sure if the same is true for his M6, but might be worth a look.

Thanks. I spoke with him. His M6 doesn't have the newer ventilated chassis cover. Maybe thats not a big deal? I could save a few hundred versus a new one. Hmmmm

I don't know if its a big deal or not. I know that guys having the overheating problem were able to get the updates from Mesa. If were talking about the same person, he's a stand up guy and I wouldn't have any worries.

there's more to the upgrades than just the cover.
there's a second internal fan, a different thermal relay, and a few other things, IIRC.

I wonder which one I have. I took it out of the head case recently and it has vents on the top. Which when I put it back in the case, I noticed the piece that tightens on top of the amp blocks most of the top vents. Can you see the second fan without taking the top off? Either way I haven't had any of the shutdown issues.

if you take a flashlight, shine if thru the front left faceplate vents, squint real hard, and look just right, you should see the second fan. maybe.
at least, this is where it is on my M9; I think it's the same on the M6.

Another +1

While the M6 is pure win... if you can, get the upgrades. If you get an early version, get it upgraded. I have a fathom version and did experience a failure at a gig one time. After I got the upgrades, it has been 100% trouble free.

NAD!!! I did the deed and pulled the trigger on the M6 Carbine today. Brand new from my local brick and mortar shop. They take great care of me. Yes I could have saved some money buying a used M6, but now I have peace of mind and local support.

This amp is PURE tonal bliss. Already know how killer my bass sounds through the M6 through my Bergantino AE410. Woohoo!!

Now I have to decide whether to rack bag the amp or go with an SKB 2U case. Leaving toward the SKB but I already own a 3U Rack bag. Hmmm.
