Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

It was my experience, wehn I first got my M6, that different tubes made little, or no difference in tone, so, I put the stock one back in.
However, if the tube is the problem, hopefully replacing it will make a nice difference.

I am in the process of building an outboard mute switch in a pedal format. I was originally going to just buy the Voodooman switch pedal but thought that was a bit too expensive. Plus I wanted the option to run the status LEDs with either a 9v battery or an external power supply like a One Spot.

I called Mesa's customer service and unfortunately the fellow that I spoke to wasn't up on how that system worked. He did call me back late that afternoon but I missed the call so I never really got the answer that I was looking for.

Anyhow...I ran across this in the last thread and I just wanted to confirm that this is just basically shorting the loop between the tip of the 1/4" phone plug and the barrel?

Can it really be that easy?

Well, I finally pulled the trigger on changing up my gigging rig... sold my M-pulse 600 and bought a Fathom. For a while now I've been feeling I needed an amp that would sit better in the mix and cut through my guitarist's crunchy Marshall stack. :hyper:

Question: the Fathom was obviously built early in the product's history... have there been any issues or upgrades that I should be aware of?

I live about 15 minutes from the Mesa factory and they have been absolutely great in the past in taking care of my amps (it's why I've been buying mesa all these years).

you'd have to call and ask them...
seems like the thermal limit switching was one, and some other stuff i don't remember.
fuse holder?
some of the fathoms had issues based around these; others didn't.

if yours performs without issue, you could just leave well enough alone.

Has anybody tried an M6 with a Powerhouse 2x10?

I'm curious as to whether the cab can actually take the full 600 watts it's rated for - if yes, an M6 and Powerhouse is gonna be my next upgrade.

I found that my Scout cab can handle the full 300 watts from the Walkabout head, so I'm hopeful. Can anybody shed some light?

Thanks!

I have, and this combination sounds great. In general, I believe that Mesa/Boogie is pretty fair in their power handling ratings, but that M6 is pretty mighty. I'd be quite careful about cranking it "to 11" with just the PH210. Use some common sense, though, and that's a great paring. Even better if you add a PH212 to the mix! :D :bassist: :bassist: :bassist:

Tom.

...and yet again, the TB community blows my mind. I just got a response from the editor of Bass Gear. Un-fricken-believable!

Thanks for the info, Tom! Now I gotta start saving my pennies! :bassist:
