Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

Hmmm; and I have a HT322...
With the GK neo4x10, setting 3 (flat) and the bass knob at noon, the bass response was nothing short of fantasticly killer

I thought the bass boost might be some medical option for clogged bowel issues

I wanted an M6, but a used M9 appeared at a good price. Serial number 000034, and three trips to the shop later, it is a champ. Like Alan used to do, I have used it with a UL1 410 (4 ohm). I have used bass boost in certain rooms...

About the GK mb800—it is clean, sweet, and strong. A mini-me M9 Carbine. Get the M9 if you want more extreme EQ possibilities and/or 2 ohm capability. The M9 compressor is very useful.

If you need cheap, small, light, and M9-like, get the Gk mb800. All IMHO.

Ok, I have an issue that I hope someone on this thread can help with. I recently aquired a Mesa M6, and absolutely love the amp. I run it thru a new Mesa 810 4 ohm with the ohmage on the head matched up. Well, I was playing last weekend in my cover band, and halfway thru the first set, it just shuts off. I checked it and it was not hot, warm, but nothing out of the ordinary. It would not turn back on for 5 minutes, and when it did, it played for another 15 minutes and off again, this time it wouldnt come back on untill the last set (I just ran the direct out of my sansamp when in crapped out the first time). I had the active switch on, the gain at 9 0clock, pretty flat EQ on head and bass, and the master was never past 12 oclock. I didnt think i was pushing it hard at all, the fuse is fine, but i wasnt running with a power conditioner, which leads me to think that it could have been bad power. Was there ever an issue with this amp acting this way? Im not sure if it has been back to Mesa for the upgrades everyone talks about, which im still not sure what those are. Can anyone help?

Check with Mesa to see if it's had any updates applied (by s/n). The fuse may be fine, but the fuse HOLDER might have an issue, plus there have been other updates I can't recall that may matter, and they'd be the best source on this.

Thanks Vic. I called Mesa and it turns out this is a very early M6 and it hadn't had any upgrades. They were very friendly and answered all my questions, and I shipped it to them just now. I just want to give a thumbs-up to their customer service.
Cool. You should be in good shape on the returned unit. :)

Ditto thumbs up on the M6 2x12 Combo. I adore mine.

For small club gigs, I take a 1x12 cabinet, but when I use the combo at larger venues, my bandmates always comment positively on the tone!

The M6 combo can handle nearly anything -- if you can handle its weight and not many stairs are in the way.

To transport the M6 combo, you need at least a small PU truck, SUV or old large car with monster trunk. I can testify that a 1998 Nissan Maxima won't do it.

Cheers,

Jim,
The head is indeed removable. It's an easy job, just need a Phillips head screwdriver. Remember to unplug the speaker cable before disassembling.

Thinking I might wish to use the head as a separate, I bought a rack for it.

That was over a year ago, and so far all I've done is try it for fit. But you never know.

I would like a head case for my M6, does anyone have any suggestions?

I'd call Mesa direct and ask them which model will fit the M6; if it is no longer available, you can call their store in Hollywood, CA to see if they have any left.
The M6 is a standard 2-space rackmount size, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find.
There are companies that made headcases that fit rackmount heads; none of them are popping into my head right now. However, I have seen custom designs, Tolex colors, etc.

Questions questions.

Picked up an M6 this last week, fully upgraded - plugged it into a Schroeder BMF2x12 with all tone knobs at noon, playing my Nordy - clank, ghastly god awful, tried the Mesa big and wide setting gain @ 1, bass @ 2, mid @ 10, voice 2 (or off) and treble @ 9 - better, but man I am not used to using such (to me) extreme eq. Will def need to use a pedal to boost the low mids 200 - 250.
I'll test it at a outdoor gig along side my DB750 through 4 gs112's, with with the gs112's being natively fatter than the BMF, I'm hoping this will have me like the head - ideas?
