Mesa M6 Carbine Mega Thread part 3:

Man forget about a little hiss, this amp slams! It's killer with an NV610. I found that the M6 being as bright as it is, is a great match for that cab. There is plenty of highs for slap and upper mids when digging in for a rockish sound. I found that at higher SPLs, the high end coming out of this rig doesn't become offensive in a way that I think many tweetered setups can. Hard to describe. Awesome setup!

I had been using a Walkabout until now. Great amp , great tone... but everyone in the band appreciated the additional clarity and volume from the M6.

This amp does slam, that is for sure. In my case the Carbine also helps me sit better in the mix with my band versus my old Ameg. 2 distorted guitars chew up a lot of the mids, but the Mesa brings it down low and the Spector (with pick) I'm playing through it helps cut through with upper mids.

It's actually getting to the point now where I've stopped using my compressor and other overdrives/effects because I enjoy the pure tone so much. It feels like the Carbine/PH212 combo and Spector compliment each other really well for what I'm trying to do. Such an awesome amp, though I do want to try out a Prodigy!

I would love to find an older Fathom M6... The Pre Carbine M6.... I had one.. It was the LOUDEST 600 watts that i ever heard.. Punchy like no other.. Just a monster.. I never should have sold that amp..

I don't see why a newer one would be any less loud than a Fathom. The M6 always knocks my socks off, along with anything not attached to the floor.

That takes the sting out of recently having paid $250 more for my Fathom (#200) than the $399 Carbine at GC! Thanks! :smug:

And yeah, it's freaking ungodly loud. I'm totally smitten with it.

What are the updates that I hear people mention? I assume older models can be updated to newer specs? Something with the fan?

Any idea when those updates were just part of the standard build?

I know improved venting on the chassis is one of em. They do updates on older models. Never had any issues with my Fathom, but I had the updates done. Just in case. ;)

I never had in issue with my Fathom... and it is the LOUDEST 600 watts that i have ever played....
I just wonder if they did forced air cooling of the amp from rear to front... instead of to the side as it is, if that would be a more efficient way to rid the amp of heat buildup? i dont know.. just wondering.

For rack equipment, sucking in air through the front and blowing it out the back is basically the best cooling method. Although most rack equipment is NOT designed this way.

I'm talking all rack equipment, servers, phone equipment, etc. Not just musical equipment.

Will you buy me a lottery ticket ?!?!!!
That is THE BEST deal I've ever heard of !!!!

I think I may have to steal his crown.....

Just got a Fathom 2x12 combo the other day for $450, including shipping and extended warranty. :hyper:

It was marked down to $299 from $999, for no apparent reason. The handle on the back was messed up, there are a few small knicks in the tolex, and there was a stain on the grill I painted over. Beyond that, it's clean, and it looks like the head was already updated. Still wondering why it was marked down! I've had it crackle on me a couple times, but it always goes away. I figure i can use the warranty for repair in case something rears it's ugly head in the future!
