Mesa M9 mega thread

First off, hello to all,
Secondly I found this thread through Google search.
Thirdly, thanks to this thread I found I should send my M9 (#146) in to Mesa (already called and such).
I bought mine from Mesa Hollywood in March of last year, only issue was a noisy/crackly pre tube out of the box ,that was resolved by Mesa post haste.
Taking a chance on the heat or power thing (what ever the hell it is specifically) is not my style.

Just wondering-Is the foot switch cable it comes with some special M9 thing?I tried a shorter cable I had and it didnt work.

all the better if that M9 already come updated
(a good indicator is the vented top cover)

AFAIK the foot switch cable is just normal TRS

I'm in the market for a new head for my bigger gigs. I've been considering an M9 so I've read about half of this thread and the M9 sounds like the head I'm after. I was toying with the idea of the Titan V12 , but I haven't read up on that one yet. Do most of you have the rack mountable M9 or the Pro Net non-rackable head?? Any difference besides the the rackmount capability?

The headcase adds about 15lbs. It looks fabulous, but a regular rack case protects the front and back better and is easier to haul IME. The head itself is exactly the same and can be removed from the headcase and rackmounted. If you think you'd dig a headcase, best to buy it that way new since an optional headcase purchased separately is 299. Also check their website-headcase can be boughtr in custom colors and finishes for an upcharge.

Thanks,and looks like its all up to current speck.

Its a bit early to tell for sure but still looks like its staying.Ive had 2 gigs with it-Thures night the gig was so low volume that I would normally just take a small cab and my LMII but wanted to try the M9.And last night we played in an old building that was converted into a party venue.It was so boomy I couldnt really hear anything.Tonight we are up in Oklahome City and I should have a chance to open it up a bit and I hope to get a better chance to see what this thing will do.

What I can say is Im really impressed with thr DI.I was able to step out front during soundcheck(wireless) and it sounded great.

One thing Im not sure Im crazy about is the master volume is so touchy.There is a sweet spot where it goes from off to LOUD.

As I mentioned earlier I'm in the market for either a M9 or a Titan V12 , but I'm leaning towards the M9. I'm in the process of trading my two 4x10 markbass cabs in for a Bergantino NV412 cabinet. Does anyone run their M9 with an NV412 cabinet or at least tried this this head / speaker combination?? I'm just curious if the Berg NV412 would be a good match for the M9 Carbine or would it be a better match for the Titan V12?? Thanks again as always for any input or advice about my question. I haven't pulled the trigger on the cab trade yet , so I could still go for an AE410 or AE212 if one of those would be a better match for the Mesa heads. As you can tell I have my choices of heads and cabs narrowed down , but still not 100% sure which way to go with my final decision.

I'd bet the V12 with a 412 would be killer man. I'm not sure I'd dig the M9 with a tweetwerless sealed cab like that (tried it with a 15 sealed w/o tweeter and didn't dig it).

+1 carbine has a big low end and alot of top end. Defiantly think ports and tweeters are the way to go, although when I had mine I never tried it w/ a sealed cab. It sounds huge with a PH412

I loved my M6 with all three NV's. They do help keep the big bottom of the M6/M9 in check, and the clear, punchy nature of the Mesa goes pairs well with the NV's voicing.

Just when I started leaning toward the Titan I read the last three posts in this thread - Lol. Great info - Thanks guys! At least by the sounds of it I can't go wrong either way - M9 or the Titan with the Berg NV412. That's a good thing in my book. :D At least I have a bit of time before I need to chose which Mesa I'm gonna buy. I'm just a little worried that they are ending production on the Titan. Is there a reason - or are they gonna replace it with something else?? Will that make it harder to get the Titan repaired if something goes wrong with it?? Thanks again for your great input - it's appreciated very much. ;)

I heard the same thing about the V12. I hope it's because they've got something even more indestructible and ballsy on the way. I doubt you'll have issues with getting it repaired...unless your power section kicks the bucket and needs to be replaced...if I were you, I'd grab the M9 for now, get a 3 space rack, and toss in one of JGRs pres (when/if he starts making the available for sale). That way you'd have the best of both worlds! lol

My M9 in a three space Gator rack is an easy one handed carry. The Titan is a lot heavier for sure. I owned BB750 for awhile which is the Titan's little brother. It had a fatter tone then the Carbine but when compared side by side, the Carbine just did everything I wanted it to. The top end sheen is gorgeous on the Carbine and the tone can be made quite warm by bringing up the pre amp tube gain without adding distortion. I don't think you could possibly run out of headroom with an M9. Its a monster of an amp considering how it only weighs about 24 pounds.

I have a music store looking into hooking me up with a Berg NV412 cabinet , but it's not like I have any money down on it or made a commitment to buying it. Do you think the M9 would pair up better with the Berg NV412 or a PH cab? I never looked into Mesa cabs before , but I just got done checking them out on Bass Centrals website and they look very impressive. The three PH cabs that really caught my eye were the PH412 , PH1200 , and the PH810. The one thing that I did notice is that they are heavy cabs. What PH cabs do most of you M9 users use?? Thanks for your input. I'm sorry for all of my questions , but I want to make sure that I make the right decision when I pull the trigger on a new rig.

Personally, I don't like Mesa cabs... too heavy, mediocre sound, and the ones I've demo'd did not enjoy drop-tuning. That said, I love my Carbine amps through Genz cabs, particularly the Uber and NEOX cabs. I find that my Genz cabs bring out the clarity and smoothness inherent to the Carbine heads and control the bottom, letting me decide how much rumble I want. If you can find one locally and haven't done so, definitely check out the Uber cabs.

I use one 4-ohm 410. It's incredibly loud, very punchy, and the best-sounding cab I've ever heard :). The perceived volume may have to do with the voicing of the cab, which has a lot of oomph in the low mids. To my ear, it's a great compliment to the M9, which seems to have a very slight scoop in the low-mid region.

I recorded almost all of the bass tracks on our album using a Carbine/Uber 410 mic'd rig. If you're interested in hearing the results, I can shoot you a PM with our website and some info detailing the basses used and entire signal chain.
