Mesa M9 mega thread

I played mine for an extended practice and loved the tone..Actually used the voice 5 for our band covers of a couple of sublime songs and a couple of other tunes in that genre...very deep but punchy..utterly wall shaking with the volume at 9 am! I use a glock quattro 410..warm, articulate...good at low volumes too. I love the respon siveness of the head.

For the rest of the time I had it on the EQ with some slight mid boosting and it sounded great for rock stuff. Threw the EBS valvedrive in front of it to add tubey grind and OD for a couple tunes and it sounded good. Very pleased...

I did learn that my stock jazz pups in my geddy are NOT great compared to my stingray..the carbine/stingray combo really allows subtle touches like harmonics to shine through..had a tough time with the jazz getting those same harmonics so I may need a pup swap.

I tried turning off the G-EQ and using Voicing 2 last night. I really liked the low end emphasis for the slower stuff, but when I was using my pick and playing faster there weren't enough mids to really fill up the middle.
Guess I'll try and dial in something different yet similar on the G-EQ. This is the downside to having all our gear in one rack offstage. Can't make any on-the-fly adjustments with this thing like I was doing before.

You kinda could, by using the pedal to turn the GEQ off and on when you need a different voicing.
It does that, right? My pedal is still in the packing box.......I could be wrong.

Yeah the pedal does that- I meant manual OTF changes, sorry! :D
When I had the amp standalone in it's own 2U case, for our slower stuff I'd flick off the GEQ and switch the Voicing to something more low-endy and then back for the last part of the set, etc..
The manual said to probably not use both the GEQ and Voicing at the same time, which until I turned off the GEQ, that would be happening.

Shoot, I run GEQ with voicing all the time.
I'm either on voice 3 with bass and treble boosted, and mids cut, or Voice three, with bass and treble cut, and mids boosted.
(both at the shelving, ad GEQ. not much at any one place, but, using all that stuff at once none-the-less)

Well I have to have at least one Voicing on when the GEQ is engaged, and "3" is supposed to be the "flat" one, correct? That's what I have on w/ my GEQ. I dunno if you can even fully defeat the Voicings w/out a pedal?
Anyway, maybe I'll just pull my amp outta the rack and see how that goes. It was working well before we decided to get that big honkin' thing!

It simply warns that if you use both simultaneously you should avoid dramatic overlaps (like using the GEQ to make the voicing dips and bumps more extreme than they already are).

That's true. I think the quickest and easiest thing (which will keep me happy, too!) is just pulling the amp from the rack and letting me adjust it as I see fit.
Plus both guitards are about to go to true amp setups in the next month or so, so the rack will be out soon enough anyway.

So an update...

We finally had a band rehearsal last night after taking a month off, and I plugged in the footswich, set the switch to "Voice Defeat" on the back, set the GEQ switch to "Footswitch" mode, Voicing to "2" and yeah... problems.
The footswitch won't activate the GEQ. The Mute button works fine. Even setting the Voice to flat/"3", and the GEQ to "footswitch" it won't work.
I'm not sure if it's the switch or the TRS cable. I actually haven't used either of them since I bought it earlier this year. It's just been sitting in a box.

I could understand if it was something funky with the Voice Active/Defeat, but even just the simple GEQ won't turn off/on regardless of the Voice setup.

Thoughts? Thinking about trying a new TRS cable but I don't have one immediately on-hand.

Remember to set the toggle on the FRONT panel to footswitch.

I'm not clear but|I think what you're saying is that even without the footsw., the front toggle will not activate the GEQ. If that's the case----call Mesa.

The front "GEQ On" toggle works fine, as well as the "Off" position for the GEQ 3-way toggle.

It won't turn on/off when you try to activate the GEQ with the Footswitch when the 3-way toggle is in the "GEQ-Footswitch" position.

So it's only active if you turn it on, on the front toggle.

Hey, whadda you all think about the M9 with a full 'stack' of Berg HT112ER/EX112ER cabs? They are rated at 350W ea at 8 ohms. Is this too much amp for these little cabs in the usual rock band setting? I see some set-ups using some smaller cabs than I would have expected so it got me thinking.

My M6 sounds great through two HT112ERs, so I would expect that rig to be equally good.
