Mesa Subway 115 with 210 or other 115

I auditioned a number of Subway cabs a while back. First, the 115 is magic. Get one. Full stop. For me, the 115/210 combo hits the sweet spot - the solidity of the 15 and the articulation of the 210…

I went with the 210 and 115 and I love them both So glad I made this choice, it gives me versatility if I want to use them one at a time, and together they sound so good!

Do you see yourself gravitating to one or the other for a single-cab rig?

It is hard to tell which one I prefer to be honest, but I tend to take the 115 if I only want to use one because it is smaller and lighter. I should try using the 210 in these cases to see how I like it.

I like the 210 on top usually

I really like the 2 cabs together, and they are very loud which is very useful with the band I play in and they are so light, it is so nice when I use the stairs..

I don’t see myself getting any other cabs in the future, they are exactly what I was looking for!

And i totally love that they used the BIG badges on the smaller cabs back then. My only gripe with my current Subway 210 and future backordered 115 is the dinky little Mesa badge. It's grinds my gears so bad everytime I look at them.

not sure if still available, but, just go to the website and look for those different sizes.

They still do, I looked. $30 dollars each plus shipping. Trust me I’ve been thinking about it. We’ll see if I decide to. I know some people are the opposite of me and hate badges all together and take them off. Wonder if anyone had a couple laying around they’d sell for cheaper.

Of the Subway lineup and 210, 112 and 115 cabs I don't think there really is a "bad" pairing you can make between those three. Adding another 115 will give you that classic 215 rig but lighter in size and weight.

I’ve been using the 115 and 210 since they came out with no complaints. I used to have a 112, but sold that in favour if the 210 once it was released.

The 210 is more scooped. Full lows, a bit more aggressive top, relaxed through the middle. I like how it sits in a mix. If you play amp with a pick or aggressive fingerstyle I think this brings out the edge and clank more.

The 115 is thick as ****. I like how it fills up empty space and it’s my preference if I only run one cab.

The horn in either cab works well. It’s a smooth extension of the mids that adds articulation without added harshness.

I find the peaks and valleys of the two speakers compliment each other nicely. I occasionally jones for a second 115. I like the versatility of the 210/115 and would recommend starting there, but for my current project a pair of 115s would be sweet.

Disclaimer: I have NOT tried the SW210. Why? In all honesty, I tried a couple of Bergantino 210’s and the 310, and they all went right back in the box. I also tried the Hartke combo 210 back in the day; also being short lived. Reason was that they sounded great on top of a 12; but, alone, they were gutless. I presume the Mesa box is way better; but, I’m now just done with 210 boxes.

OTOH. The SW112 is the baddest sounding 12 I’ve ever had the privilege to play. I’ve done a bunch of gigs with it alone. I actually have to be careful with a good HPF to control stage rumble with it. And, the combo with the SW115 is perfect for my purposes. The SW115 has far less stage rumble and sits in a mix to perfection.

I freely admit that an SW210 could readily shatter my 210 reluctance. Problem is that I’m too perfectly pleased by my 112’s and 115’s. I learned long ago not to mess with perfection.

Don't judge the Subway 210 based on other 210's, there's quite a difference.

The good news is that @agedhorse designed the whole series to complement each other. So there is no wrong answer!

That said, let me cast a vote for 2 X 115. Holy crap. That stack just continues to bring me joy.

I am/was an Eden snob but can't lift the heavy stuff anymore so the anal side of me has been looking for a month solid, reading reviews and listening to videos everyday and night, for something in the 40lb weight category (Dr's orders). Really there are a lot of cabinets that sound great in videos, but I am not playing on videos, in bedrooms and such. I am realizing that I may have to find something equally as good as my beloved 22 year old Eden sound. First I liked Fender Rumble and bought too much of it trying to get a good live sound, before realizing that it's not for me. The I looked at GK videos, then Mesa Subway, then Genzler, then back to Mesa, then Bergantino, then back to Mesa. It's driving my old indecisive mind crazy. It's a lot of $$ for a retired guy.

For the record, I too don't care for the lone 210 sound, not even the Eden 210. But two 210's or a 210 and a 115 is good and would fit the bill for some of the large/loud outdoor stages and my Sciatica. For small indoor events a lone 210 is ok. Then from what I have been reading then new top rate cabinets aren't the same as what grandpa is used to.

Any way good stuff sure has gone up in price and I am struggling with sticker shock for something I've never heard. But then again my 1999 Eden stuff was not much different in price than the top stuff of today and I bought that based on a magazine article to replace my beloved Acoustic 370/408 monster. So...I'm about to fall off the fence into the Mesa Subway garden starting with a 210. Then saving for either a 115 or a 112. Just need the slightest little push and I will make the call tomorrow.

I used a 210 on the bottom with the SW 115 on top for a few years. Always was a good combo, the SW210 was a smoother tighter low end and the 115 on top had more low mid punch, perfect combo.

This is the point of minimum mechanical power handling of the cabinet, meant the cabinet can handle 425 watts at 81Hz.
