Mucking out horse stalls and hearing the whisper of your horses may have something to do with it.

Just not your sound or your needs are different, understood.I gig in 500-4000 Cap venues with large stages. Still didn't do it for me.
Ha! Yes, it IS unusual to have the level of interaction we have, and actual implementation of the community "asks", from any manufacturer. Mesa are a privately held company, as is Gibson, so no shareholders to please. But they still need to make a buck, and I hope they are, and continue to do so.I don't get it. Is this some 'Alien Language' or something? I think I recognize some of the words, but they're put together in a way I've never seen before.
That's not a sentence that ya hear very often from many companies. If ANY (ever).
"Listen to the players" he says. Good one. What about the shareholders?
Wait. What's that.. you say? If a company makes (Reliable) things that people Want, Like and Buy, THEY are happy AND the Company profits? So, It's some sort of a "Win/Win" is what you're saying?... Well, I'll BE.
D800+ User here. (with a SW 212 Cab).

Agree, that's why there are different amps for different tastes.Just not your sound or your needs are different, understood.
Never. Cold, dead hands, and all that. You’ll either want to replace the 800+
Well, yeah, but the bigger parts are the expertise and inspiration to transform our wishes into reality, turning our dreams into amps that sound amazing and are built to last. These amps will be handed down to the next crop of bass players.A big part of designing amps that players want to play is to listen to what players are really asking for.
I have Dreamed about being on stage with the Beatles and Stones playing in my own Band at MSG etc.Well, yeah, but the bigger parts are the expertise and inspiration to transform our wishes into reality, turning our dreams into amps that sound amazing and are built to last. These amps will be handed down to the next crop of bass players.
Not to mention that the amp seems to behave and sound a bit different, in a good way, the more that you turn it up. I can be quite happy practicing at home with it, but once I began to crank it on a gig I know I get a big smile on my face. Every once in a while I crank it a little bit at home for a song or two just to get that sound and feeling at home.I can only speak from my experience, first thing is you cannot judge the 800d or any mesa cab by sitting close up to it,you need to set the rig out in a larger area, you will get a fuller feel for this stuff, gigging musicians will understand this. I just picked up a 800d, I have 2 subway 115s, sitting on the couch,or in a small bedroom will not let you discover the real full tone, your to close to the system..I was in a small bedroom and had my ear within 5ft or less and didn't particularly like the low end at all,
but I knew that if I moved the rig into a bigger room I would get a real test, and of course the rig was fat, powerful and tons of bass..Take your rig into a larger area and back off 25ft 30ft and you will be surprised. 800d is a beast.

Just last week I plugged in my WD800 and ran my Fender Modified Active P Bass through it. Wow, just wow. That bass loves the WD800. I wouldn't put that amp in the closet just yet.I was a WD800 guy for a the last few years. I love that head, but the 800D has become my number one. I just took it out on tour for the first time and I couldn't get a bad sound out of it. I have it in a 2U rack case, but I am going to take it out and it will travel in my new / old Anvil tour case with my cables, tools, picks, tape, sweat clothes and pedals. Those MESA heads are so small an light! The Low Pass Filter is a game changer. Every bass head should have one built-in.
I really like the WD-800 and the 800D..The 800+ is hard hitting, I have the pedal ,would love to have the head as well, but I'm good with 2 amps.Just last week I plugged in my WD800 and ran my Fender Modified Active P Bass through it. Wow, just wow. That bass loves the WD800. I wouldn't put that amp in the closet just yet.
