Mesa Walkabout Megathread!

I imagine a few of you have had the chance to A/B a Walkabout head into the Scout 12" cab and an Aguilar GS112.

What are your opinions? Similarities? Differences? Pros/Cons? Thanks!

yes, I have run my Walkabout 12 combo with an Aggie GS112 NT as an extension. Also just the Walkabout head into the GS112NT, a MB Powerhouse 1x12, a MB Scout 15 and all the possible 2 way combinations of these cabs.

I generally do not care for the GS112NT sound by itself. Nothing to write home about, sort of an "eh" sound to me. Kind of muddy and indistinct sounding with a bit of a mid-hump to my ears. Also, the MB cabs all have variable crossovers (3k, 4k, 5k) as well as tweets with attenuators, so you can dial in the cab sound you want with ease.

I did use it with the Walkabout head and the Powerhouse 1x12. It sounded just ok in that combination, but it really just acted as another woofer .. really only backing up the Powerhouse output. It did not add anything great to the sound mix.

Currently I have been favoring the Walkabout 12 combo with the Scout 15 extension. Great old school tone and nice cab options for setting the 2 crossovers and tweets up to compliment each other for a great full range sound.

The GS112 is not terrible as an extension to the Walkabout, it's voice and flexibility just does not compare well to the MB cabs I have at my disposal. No hate here, but I would not buy another one. In fact, I'm probably going to post the GS112 in the TB classified shortly for a very attractive price ;)

just so I don't sound like I am crapping all over the Aggie, on the pro side it is cheaper and lighter than the MB cabs.

Anybody ever use this combination

Mesa 4 Ohm Scout with an 8 ohm Eden 2x10 XLT?

I am thinking about bringing the Eden cab to tonites gig..

I never played this room and looks like I might need an extra cab..

I might just bring the Eden WT 550 with the 2x10 XLT...
Thanks

I used my 4 ohm Walkabout Scout with a 4 ohm LDS 2x8+5 last night.
Ran hard, for four continous hours with no problems...
I think with the 210xlt would be niiice.

This is with a Dr Bass 1260, but you get the picture...

Usually at the gig, I lay the bottom cab longways instead of tallways...this is just stored by the door it leaves out of.

I visited the Lombard, IL Sam Ash store on Wednesday night and nearly tripped over a barely used Walkabout Scout 1x12 combo cab. At $249 (with cover) plus tax, I couldn't resist and brought it home with me.

I liked it, but enjoy my AccuGroove Tri210L more (it's all in the mids)...so back went the Scout the following day. If I ever need two cabinets, I also have a Sonic 210 that sounds pretty good (not quite as good as the Mesa, but close enough that it wasn't worth the grief to say good-bye to the Sonic in favor of it).
