Mesa Walkabout Megathread!

I have a new question. I have a line on a combo cab without the head. How can I run this as an extension cab to the complete WS combo?
as the WS combo cab has its own 1/4 in male angle plug you can either:
get a good quality speaker cable that is 1/4 male to 1/4 female A (cheapest, simplest, least # of connections)
or
get a small female-female 1/4 in adapter
or
possibly mod the combo cab by taking out the 1/4 male angle plug and putting in either/both 1/4 female and or speakon jacks. They make a combo female speakon + 1/4 jack. More of a hassle maybe, but I think in the end it would be a better set-up.
BTW, I use the WS 12 combo with a Scout 15 extension .... sounds great !

It can be done. You'll have to make up an adaptor for the speaker input on the cabinet w/o the head though, if it's at all like mine. The combo cabinet has a speaker cable with a male 1/4" plug attached to plug into the head. That's easy enough to do. You can get an adaptor with a female input on each end for a few bucks.
I am really interested in this comparison. There is so much hype about Markbass I wonder how it can live up to it. Besides, I am stuck on tubes. Please post if you can compare these!So I might be converting to a Mesa Walkabout soon...
Played one at my local music store today. WOW. Just, WOW. First I tried picking it up. No problem with one hand. Sweet. Next, turned the sucker on, plugged in my Jazz bass(brought along for the sole reason of testing it out). Waited for the tubes to warm up, set everything flat, gain and master to about 9 o clock. A lot louder then I expected, and about as smooth as water.Only got to play around with it for 5 minutes, but I am absolutely hooked. Considering Mark Bass as well, but MB is going to have to put out a miracle in order to change my mind at this rate.
Mine shut down when I used the extension cabinet at 4ohms. I ended up having to replace the speakers with 8ohm in both the combo and the extension cabinets to get the load within spec. Mesa sells the extension cabs but not in a configuration that you can use without replacing the speakers. I was told by a couple of people at Mesa that the speakers had to be 8ohm if you run the extension cab.
Mesa replaced the mono block section as well. It might handle 2ohms now but I would not count on it.

I wanted to chime in on these little wonder amps.
I saw a show this weekend in Big Sur: A band called Entrance from LA opened for Chris Robinson's solo gig.
The bass player was kickass, and had a tone to die for. I later found out it was Paz Lenchantin, who has played with several different bands including Perfect Circle, Zwar, QOTSA and others.
It was a Walkabout Scout 15 combo, and thru her '69 Pbass, simply unbelievable tone. I was dumbfounded, and consider myself to be a good judge of tone.
I used to have an SVT II & 810, which was nice but WAY too much to haul around. The scout rocked harder, sounded better, and would probably hold up in a bigger show with just an ext cab.
I'm supposed to be getting a WT800 A in the next few weeks (my bro is finishing repairs) -- I sure as hell hope it sounds as good or I'm going to die from GAS.

I have now done 10 or more shows with a 4 ohm extention cab...either LDS 2x8, Schroeder 1210, or Dr Bass 1260.
I've had no thermal shutdown issues, and in fact the amp seems no warmer than just running it by itself.
I've done this with both DB, electric, and both instruments at the same show...input at about three, master at about 5, eq more or less flat...
YMMV, etc;

anone ever play a walkabout out of a pair of Mesa 1x15s or Mesa 1x15 and 2x10? Ive got pair of Aggie GS112s and want to know one can describe the sound. I remember playing a Walkabout out of a Mesa 4x10 and it was very syruppy.

I picked up a bag for carrying a Playstation2 at costco for ~$20 two years ago and it works great carrying the walkabout head. It's like it was made for the walkabout. It's got a couple of external pockets that hold the requisite cables.

Well it *could* have been backline, but Paz mentions in interviews and on one of her websites that she plays Mesa and that they are "the best, period."
So either way, it wasn't an accident. It wasn't an extremely loud show -- I prefer it that way, I screw up my hearing enough with my own amp. Plently loud though. But the TONE was amazing, and I'm GASsing for one big time.
Isn't it 300 watts with 4 ohm cab? My SVT was only 300W too.....
Oh, and the head alone weighed more that the whole WS15 rig. And my old 810 reefer? Well I forget exactly but it weighed at least 3 combos worth.
I need to play one: That was the one issue I had with the SVT, it was only really good for that one tone -- but did it very well.
