Depending on how big the space is you can use aluminum tape or foil around the bushing to make a tighter fit and the bolted on tuner position concentric. Once the tuner is screwed on, it only need to stop the bushing from falling out. A tight fit with no tape is idea though.

BTW, I checked into the weight difference between the Hipshots and the SM tuners and it was about 5 to 6 ounces. I haven't been able to pick up my body yet, but I'll make my final decision depending on how light the body is.

My sonic blue body just arrived. Color looks good so far... soft and not too green. Pickguard en route. Will post unassembled pic with body and neck when it gets here.

Weight is 4lb 10oz, so I'm happy with that. Hoping to keep build under 9lbs.

I may go the aluminum tape route too.

Also I'm a dope and didn't realize the MM neck I bought is unfinished. I see why vintage tint is an up charge. Really fumbling my way through this... first build with new parts.

Does it feel smooth? I believe it is supposed to be a light oil and wax finish. I have a MM fret less neck that I didn't do anything extra too and it feels awesome. This is not supposed to be poly coated if that it what you looking for.

Parts starting to come in! Ordered the last of what I needed to complete: pots, knobs, neck plate and strap buttons.
I'm still going to wind my own pickups but in the mean time I picked up a set of Fender Original '62's. :thumbsup:

Hipshot Tuner is .620, MM tuner holes are .710. +/-.005.

Body weighs 5.194 lbs
MM fit in the neck pocket is perfect, tight but not overly tight.

Got my body today...looks VERY nice. I got a great grain...and I can't find a body join anywhere so maybe it's a 1 piece body, not sure though. Anyway, mine is also super light. I don't have the scale I need to weigh it properly but it is definitely below 5 pounds and my best estimate is that it is closer to 4 pounds. The MM necks are about 1.7 pounds...so with the Hipshot ultralights, and the rest of the hardware, I should be able to make this about 7.5 pounds...maybe even less! It's getting Aguilar 4J-60's pickups, all passive, wired for VVT (I love simplicity), a white pearl parchment pickguard, maple boarded P neck, and white pearl control knobs. I am also splurging on a custom neckplate of a cobra, with my bass name on it - my band mates affectionately call me "MadCobra". I will make a custom waterslide headstock decal with the same idea/image later.

I ended up buying a black jazz bass body (before they were sold out). It arrived in, I think, like 2 days or something. Very quick and good packaging (box within a box).

I'm actually very happy to report that the overall quality and finish seems really excellent. I can't tell you the weight because my scale is not working now for some unknown reason. I can tell that the body is not very heavy though. It's probably somewhere in the middle, not feather light or anything like that, though.

I'm actually very excited (although it will be a while before I start on this project - I have no other parts on order now at all, nor any spare parts I can allocate to it). But, I did also want to get a black Precision body since the prices were so good, but they were already sold out. So, I'm a bit bummed by that....but, still....I did get the Jazz body, so that was a good score.
