My "mini" rig is the one on the left. I built the 115's using Eminence C2515 neo's. Each 115 weighs only 29 lbs. and for small gigs or practicing I can just take my T-Max head, a single 115 cab and my pedal board. The T-max puts out 500 watts into the two small 115 cabs, or 300 watts into one 115.

Assuming you define "modern" as clean and hi-fi: with Drive turned all the way down, the Carvin was nice and clean. My Sadowsky P5 retained it's clear modern tone. Also, my Epi 2x10 cab is 8 ohms, so the B800 was putting the minimum 300 watts into it. But the little rig kept up just fine with keys, drums, vox, and guitar at rehearsal in a finished basement. I was playing classic arena rock: Journey, Foreigner, Styx. The keyboard amp was too bassy :scowl: and the drummer had a loud kit.

Note: I turned up Drive to 2:00 because I prefer the slightly gritty edge. Turning up Drive does increase gain, but I rolled back Master to compensate. So, I can say with confidence that I didn't need Drive to achieve the necessary volume.


I'm going to gig this amp with a 4 ohm 4x10 a week from Sunday. Look for my review in the "Carvin B800 on sale" thread.

iAMP 350, Aggie GS112 & S210. The pedals, for guitars and bass are: homemade overdrive (BYOC), EBS Octa bass, Boss Loop Station & DD-20, EH Holy Grail, EH Big Muff Pi, Yamaha MagicStomp, Pod 2.0. Not in the picture: Sansamp BDDI, Sansamp GT2. This all gets played through an SX SJB-57 (no mods) and a MIA G&L L2K sig.

It's loud. I can basically set the iAMP master and level to around 12 before I get clipping. I'll never play a non-PA supported gig where I need more than this (I can barely imagine such a gig anyways). It took me a while to put it together because I have the Midwestern miserliness in my DNA. But I'm super happy with it.

my new mini setup. cab is the remainings of a MB150 combo, on top sits a le son piezo.

killer sounding and much louder and better than with the original GK amp.

sounds downright amazing with my 6string, even the low b is fat.
