Greg and Matt are hosting another awesome GTG! :bassist::bassist::bassist:

We had a blast at the last one! This is after Super Bowl and before yard work... what could be a better cure for cabin fever?

Sunday, 2-26-2012, 'The Just-Before-Leap-Year GTG' 2-5 PM

More details to follow...

I'll be doing the communication again, so PM me to get on the list for directions, head-count etc.

See you! :)

Dave

Has anyone done the 331 club's open mic night?

I'm curious if we're the only band that uses a bassist for these sorts of things, if they DI and run bass through the monitors or what.

Description
The 331cast is an open mic contest at the 331 every 2nd Thursday.

Here's how it works:

The open mic is for musicians of all levels of ability. Each act has 10 minutes to play up to 2 songs. A panel of judges will choose the top 3 performers, who will return to the stage at the end of the night to play one final song each, and the judges will crown a winner.

THE RULES:

1. signup at 9:30pm sharp - 12 spots, first-come, first-served. There is an early show before the 331cast so PLEASE DO NOT COME BEFORE 9:30. Priority will be given to new performers.
2. acoustic only - no amps, no effects, no full drum kits
(bring your own guitar, keyboard, scaled down percussion such as cajon will be allowed)
3. no more than three players per act

My band was going to do it back in October/November. We arrived 30-45 minutes early, but they already did the sign up! Kinda pissed us off because we were early, but they did the sign up anyways. We might try it again, hopefully they do what they say they're doing!

Oh, I'm in on the GTG. I hope to have a few new toys by then, as well. I have some new pedals and a wireless(!) unit. I just need to finish the new board to put them on. I still have the Artcore bass but I'm looking to unload it to buy something else. I found a fun little shortscale at the local shop. I might just trade it in. We'll see.

Is the Artcore the single cutaway (AGB-140, I think) model? I really love mine. I dropped an SGD Lutherie ND-3 (neodynium) pickup with a coil switch in it. I had it at the last GTG I went to.

I lusted after a SansAmp VT pedal for easily two years or more and I finally got one a month or two ago. I'm not really digging it as much as I thought I would.

I put one of the S2010 (neo) speakers in the Traynor Bassmate cab. It sounds pretty good to me. It's only a 20 watt tube amp, so it's good for home practice and acoustic gigs. I'll bring that with me, too.

My Skyline 55-01 has been exorcized of its demonic "activeness". It's got a pair of Nordstrand DC's (dual coils) with each pickup having a parallel/single/series switch and its own volume control. Right now it has just a standard tone control (low pass filter). Hopefully by the GTG it will also have a 80 Hz high pass filter (passive bass cut).

I'll bring it along.
