Kraigo's comments were a bit more diplomatic than mine regarding the Flea... when an artist licenses their name, it's amazing at times they stand behind lackluster gear. .. I couldn't tell/feel/hear/smell anything special that made them seem worth the additional licensing costs.
There was nothing blatantly WRONG with the bass --- there was nothing stellar RIGHT about it either.. there are tons of quality basses out there in the under $500 price point with more features and finishing touches...

And that's the difference! This time it is not the paid name on a manufacturer's product as a marketing strategy - this time the artist is the manufacturer! Fleabass is Flea's company and his tech is overlooking the QC.
If you don't like it because of the design or sound, that's a question of one's taste. I was just wondering if you tried one before you put it in one basket with all the other mass produced instruments that barely have a quality control before they are send to the stores/customers.

Fretwires.. were where the thing went off the rails... 1 out of the 3 had scratchy pots
Yes tried one (three) out for a bit of time hoping it would be a reasonable entry point for students who couldn't afford the Modulus.
A large part of my dissatisfaction is usually when the press release materials do not equate to the gear on the shelf.
I'd rather have a vendor understate the gear and overwhelm the quality.. he has some big boots to fill after the Modulus signature gear.

I highly recommend the guys at The Good Guys in St. Paul. They're also an authorized service place for GK. I've had them fix my MB150 and my Roland and they did a great job on both of them.

My friend, Jason Folkerts, fronts Second Class Citizen, who is on this bill. I was tempted to go, but it's a Sunday. I really want to check out this club, too, as we're playing there next month.
Hats off to Jason.. he did a great job of selling me some CDs.. it's refreshing to know someone still "gets" the sales end of the biz. 2nd Class had a very balanced sound --- he's got a cool Michael Stipe visual.

501.. cool staff.. Andy had INCREDIBLE sound DI to the board... after a few songs had some cool flowing and lyrical lines.
The lead bartender was friendly.. the staff cared for the entertainers.. drink specials and no cover kept the budget at under $20 (including the CDs)

Bad Sleep is a cool adult contemporary band with high caliber lead vocals..
My favorite part of the night was when Andy unintentionally nailed the tight 3rd contra melody that is reminescent of Overkill (Men at Work - Classic Tune).
I saw the band last summer --- it cost me about $850 as I started begging our pal Andy on his gear setup coaching... now if I can just make the time to learn how to play it.
We should plan some GTGs around TBer gigs..
I agree. I couldn't get the SO out Sunday night (holidays are busy time) and I was at First Ave on Saturday so my entertainment budget was blown.

Peavey makes decent cabs. It isn't a great deal on an 8x10, I don't think - I'd make an offer and see if they own it or if it's consigned. If they own it, they've only got $200 into it: MGR does 100% markup on the stuff they buy.
If it's consigned they don't have any wiggle room without contacting the owner. They will be getting about 20% for the consignment fee ($80) and the rest will go to the owner. MGR won't budge on the consignment fee and I wouldn't expect the owner to take less than $320 for the cab, so if it's consigned they won't negotiate.

We rent. I have a few contacts that are really good (usually only about 4-5 times a year). Do you have system?
a friend of mine owns that MGR. He's absolute gold. He'll give you the best price he can. But Kraigo is right in all respects of his post.
And I know they typically price their used goods pretty close to market value......

My system is a six channel, 600 watt (300 watts into two channels @ four ohms) Yamaha powered mixer with four Yamaha 3-way 12" cabs - I put two of them on stands and two in kick back amp stands for gigs. It's all the PA I want to own. It great for rehearsals and small gigs - only vocals go in the PA.
Anything larger and I'd rent. If the dude who rents to you does all the set up and tear down it's a bargain. I was just looking at your calendar on MySpace and I was wondering how much schleppage was involved. You guys don't go _THAT_ far out of town, so it's probably a pretty good gig.

Yeah, 90% of our shows are at bars with house systems. So we are pretty lucky there.....and we always rent from people who do their own set up/tear down.....
