Any of you Twin Cities TBers looking for a band still? "The High Crimes" are looking right now. I've played Mayslack's with them before. They're a fun, energetic band with great stage presence. Their music is in the vein of classic rock and they're about 50% covers, 50% originals. If I wasn't already in 3 bands, I'd be trying out for them.

They do play bars mostly, so I believe they're looking someone at least 21 years.

Disclaimer: I know that the bass player they had when I played with them had to quit for work and school reasons (too many other committments). His replacement played a show with them this last January, and I know they've had a few shows since. However, they just started looking again recently, so I don't know the reasons for his departure. Could be some drama, but from what I remember of them, they seemed like real easy going guys, and really laid back.

I'm finally finishing my two 15/6 fearfuls. Rounded over and sanded both in the last few days and am about to fill in a few chips, resand, and duratex them both.

Anyone playing with a source audio envelope filter or distortion pedal? I have gas for both of them. Happily my cab and amp gas is cured, although bass gas still unwisely brews in the background.

In my case, I think all the sanding, filing, bending (!), etc. work is done on the Copley. Since I'm not a big believer in "mojo", I still have some work to do, but I'm not sure where. Despite the fact that I have the nut cut as low as I want it, the neck as true as I want, the action impressively low, etc., I still get "evil mwah" at around the "first fret" position that keeps me from getting a good Bb on the A string, etc. It's time for new strings. Neither my Noguera fretless five string nor my bassist Mike's Ibanez Musician fretless four string (great bass!) exhibit this problem and I'm at a loss for its cause.

Anyway, it's time to get tools back to their rightful owners.

Once the "evil mwah" is exorcized it'll be time to sell some amps for new pickups. I have two Traynors: A 1973 20 watt (2x EL-84 + 2x 12AX-7) Bassmate 1x15 combo and a 1971 80 watt (2x KT-88 + 3x 12AX-7) Mark II head and a Fender BXR410 4x10 sealed combo loaded with Jensen Mod 10/50 (8 ohm) speakers. PM me.

Now to A/B with the Noguera to find the cause of the "evil mwah".

Good timing on the Source Audio post in this thread, Nightlyraider. We are putting on a clinic featuring Bakithi Kumalo of Paul Simon's Graceland fame just outside of Minneapolis at Schmitt Music in Burnsville this Saturday, April 30th at 4 pm.

We sent a box of BEFs over to the store to have on hand for the clinic, so I'm sure you'll be able to try them out first hand and talk with Bakithi about how he likes it.

Awesome! And I have the day off!

Thanks for the response, 15 minutes drive is totally worth that.

Too bad I missed this one. I'm still looking, if you happen to hear of anything else that sounds good.

This really bums me out even more. I have to miss this because my wedding shower is that same day. I even tried to get out of it, asking the fiance if it's just a bride thing. Of course she explained to me the difference between a bridal shower and a wedding shower. (I knew the difference, but was just hoping to get out of it.)

I really want to see Bakithi, and even more, I've been G.A.S.ing for a BEF since I saw the videos on Source Audio's web page. I even asked Amy (the fiance -- MN Airhead has met her) if I could register for one, because she registered for a few things that she knows I'll never use. No dice. :bawl:

I think as soon as we get back from our honeymoon, I'll have to set up a secret savings account for G.A.S.

Oh man that's brutal! Maybe we can send a strongly worded letter from Source Audio to help convince her to throw it on the registry. Or would that dig you into a deeper hole?
