That score has happened exactly once in a regular season game. Two more runs (27-12) would have been a scorigami.
49-33 yikes. I remember games getting up into the high teens in Little League (no mercy rules back then - just umps calling everything a strike when we were ahead).
I'm surprised they had enough pitchers to get through a game like that. On both sides. 94 combined runs? That's more like a cricket match than a baseball game.
It's great to be watching baseball again! I have a second computer and display in my workshop. I also have a pretty nice receiver and speakers in there (for an office at work anyway). Sitting at that desk it sounds like I'm there. I can almost smell the peanuts and Crackerjack! (Awful phone pic edit to block out my work email on the other display.)
The Sox are looking pretty sporty so far. They finally signed a one-year deal with Devers today. (Man, that kid can play. And he's so fun to watch!) So that's another important piece of an already-pretty-sporty puzzle.
I am cautiously optimistic about this season.

On a highly related note, baseball is certainly way, way different than it was in the 1800's. I googled for the highest scoring MLB game ever and it's mostly agreed that it was 49 combined runs in a Cubs-Phillies game in 1922.
It was odd seeing Troy was an MLB city but, in 1870, it was the 28th largest city in the US with a population of 47,500. By comparison the 27-28-29 largest cities today are Detroit, Memphis and Louisville. The other cities in the National Association that year were the usual suspects - Boston, NY-Brooklyn (3 teams), Philly, DC (2 teams); however, the Middletown CT Mansfields (named after a Civil War General) was located in a town of roughly 7,000 which was larger than the 5,700 who lived in Los Angeles at the time.
We're throwing stuff into bags and getting ready to fly away on Wednesday, to spend a week in Phoenix, AZ.
My sister, Noreen, lives there full time.
My youngest sister lives there part-time.
It was she, the youngest, who called today to report that she'd procured tickets to Thursday's Grapefruit League game in Surprise, AZ.
I just recently bought a pair of silver Sharpies for reasons wholly unrelated.
Now I wonder if I'll be able to get the Dodgers new first baseman to autograph my tee.
I don't know whether to vomit or puke…

We need to get the girls down to Jet Blue and see a Grapefruit League ae or two. If they were able to meet Devers or Bogarts or JD Martinez they would lose their minds.
Never mind their spring training record so far, which is right about .500, the Mariners are walking but not walking people. That's a huge change from the recent past. Wild pitchers and wild swings have given away to discipline on the mound and at the plate. Or maybe it's just an anomaly. I hope it is a trend.
I'll be watching them this season, hoping for a turnaround.
And because I found tix at the right price, my wife and I will be at the Rockies' home opener in Denver on April 8. Forecast is for the 60's so we should be comfy. Never been to an opening day game before. I suspect tix are available because Denver is not convinced that the Rox are improved. (Neither am I, but...opening day.)

I think the wind was blowing out in FLA yesterday. The Red Sox-Braves was 10-7 and each side had an infield pop drop in for a hit. Blue Jays - Yanks was 11-3 and Detroit - Philly was 7-1.
