I don't know why, but I have zero problems with the shift. It's strategy. Wanna compete against the shift? Batting practice. Learn how to hit the other way. These are professional athletes making lots of money. They should be CONSTANTLY honing their skills. Pitchers change grips years into an MLB career. JD Martinez is constantly analyzing his swing and making adjustments. Sluggers change teams and pick up new tips and tricks from the batting coach for their new team.
Suck it up and adjust. (That's exactly what a shift defense is.... an adjustment. It's also a gamble. Somebody hits the other way and you're caught with your pants down.)
Take strategy out of the game, and it's just seeing who can hit further and faster than the defense can react. That would be boring as crap.
Different rules too.
The Sox knocked the Braves starter out of the 1st inning as his pitch count was getting up there. But he hadn't pitched as much as the Braves had him scheduled for so they put him back in an inning or two later so he got his work in.
Then shouldn't the pitcher adapt to being a batter, and hone that skill?
I see both rules as offensive jump start. MLB has been borderline boring for a few years
I personally like watching the ball get swatted up the middle and a SS make that drive to get it

I'm fine with pitchers batting as well. I'm not as emotional about that one as forcing fielder to stay within a box on the field. If a coach wants to put every player other than the pitcher in right field I think he should be allowed to.
I know just like any other pro sport the MLB preseason means little. But I like how my Cards look. I like having Pujols back for one last year as DH now that the NL has DH. And with Pujols and Yadi saying this is their last year maybe that will light a fire. I can hope!

Julio Rodriguez made the team this spring. He's the next Ken Griffey Junior to come up in the Mariners farm system. He has the same buoyant personality to go along with the talent. Even if the Mariners revert instead of building on last season, they will be fun to watch.
Has Pujols started collecting Social Security yet?
Good question. I wonder how old he really is since there've always been questions.
I remember the 1st year of the DH - the Red Sox signed Orlando Cepeda who I thought was pretty old at the time, but I checked and he was only 35. He had a great year - finished 15th in MVP voting and was the 2nd most productive DH after only Frank Robinson who was 38 that season. If Pujols can deliver anything close to Cepeda numbers, (.289/.350/.444 with 20 HR and 86 RBI) the Cards would be thrilled. Cue Cher on the USS Missouri: If I could turn back time.....

I said 'Sir, anyone who has ever loved baseball will never forget what you did in Game 4 of the ALCS in 2004. That stolen base is immortal.'
He said ' That's very kind of you to say, sir.'
I replied, 'Well hell! Today is the day when Dave Roberts called me 'sir'!
I'm gonna tell my grandchildren about This!'
Fist bump through the screen while we both laughed like hell!

Projections and analysts seem to be pretty high on the Jays this year, which is nice to see! It's going to be a tough season though, even if the Jays are playing really well. Too many games against the Yanks, Red Sox, and Rays...
I look forward to the more balanced schedule they're changing to in 2023.
It's been a weird and crazy Spring Training. Trades are still happening even though we've arrived at Opening Day. Jose Ramirez's extension was report just a day or two ago. I think now things will settle down a bit though, and we can just focus on watching some baseball.

While I was typing, got another trade notice between the Padres and Twins
Airplanes all day mean I haven't been paying attention. Mariners and Twins may be frozen out. Injuries are a big risk in freezing weather.
