MLB 2025

After a very nice stretch where the Jays looked like they might be the best team in baseball - what a joy to watch - they have hit a rough patch. They won 3 out of 4 against Detroit over the weekend. That was great. It's a shame they lost the fourth game in blowout fashion, but it was still a good series win. Then they lost three in a row in Baltimore, two more losses in blowout fashion. Ugh. The bullpen needs help. Today they have a change to salvage one win against the O's. Fingers crossed. They are still at the top of the division but they won't be for long if they keep losing.

You could be a Mariners fan. Except the Mariners aren't at the top of the division.

The Mariners lost to the stinkin' A's last night, but landing Geno makes the day a win. If they can pitch reasonably well, they ought to have a pretty decent offense for the rest of the season, what with Julio heating up finally, JP living on base like he does, Cal having his season continue on, Randy heating up, and then Naylor and Suarez coming in to bat ... somewhere. The Mariners have something like five potential cleanup hitters now. I'm happy to see that the Mariners didn't trade Williamson. The man is a vacuum cleaner at 3rd. Suarez can slot in at DH and improve production from that position in a big way. Garver just hasn't done what the Mariners acquired him to do. So, my pathological optimism just got even more pathological. The Mariners didn't give up anybody disastrous to get Suarez, either. Tyler Locklear has had some MLB experience, but he hasn't exactly torn up the league so far. I don't know much about the two pitching prospects the Mariners traded away. I'm pretty happy for now.

Funny thing is that last season, the Mariners were all pitching, no hitting. It's somewhat flipped this season, and it's flipped with mostly the same pitching staff and most of the same lineup, with the exception of the additions over the last few days.

I agree that every pitcher's elbow is a ticking bomb. You never know when it's going to be time for TJ. But other guys on the market have at least pitched this year. Bieber has not thrown a pitch in the MLB since April 2024. It's good that he's pitched some rehab innings in the minors recently. Apparently the rehab starts have been encouraging and he's supposed to only need a few more rehab appearances before he's ready to return to the MLB. But if he hits a bump in the road and the team needs to shut him down before he pitches for Toronto, that would really stink. Here's hoping he keeps feeling good and pitches well for the Jays. Fingers crossed!

I'm pulling for the Mariners!!

I wish we could see their games, but we don't have the MLB channel so we'll probably only see them if they get into the playoffs.

I listen on the radio and read about them in the newspaper. It's old-fashioned enough to be appropriate for baseball.

Giants pretty much sold off the players that others would take as rentals and seem to me to have given up.

So long Yastrzemski & T Rogers. It was fun and we'll miss you. Who knows? The Giants might get one of them on the open market in the off season. Rogers has a shot at playoffs so we'll (likely?) be able to keep watching him in the post season with the Mets.

The Padres had a big deadline day and are only three games back. They meet the Dodgers six times this month. Sadly, they do not meets each other in September. Weird.

The interesting scheduling note is that the Dodgers and Mariners end their regular seasons with a three game series against each other in Seattle.

I have been looking at that last series with amusement. I figured it was a loser for the Marinders, but now I am not so sure it will be. Lots, including injuries, can happen between now and then. Without injuries, it should be a toss-up.
