MLB 2025

I just realized I've been to most of the stadiums from these teams:

Chicago - Wrigley
Milwaukee - It wasn't named American Family at the time, but this stadium
Philadelphia - Citizens Bank
LA - no
NY - the prior Yankee Stafium
Toronto - it was called the Skydome at the time
Seattle - no
Detroit - I went to Tiger Stadium

I've also gone to Fenway Park
I've been to "The Trop" and...er, ...uhm, ...

With the Cubs losing and the A's homeless, I no longer have a dog in this fight.

I'd give a slight edge to the Jays in the ALCS, if only because it'll take two games for the M's pitching to recover from the 15 inning game on Friday. But it could go either way.

Pulling for the Brew Crew all the way in the NLCS... the Dodgers are sure stacked but can be beaten.

What a great time of year.

And hockey's back.(so's bassetball but who cares)

After watching the pregame, the game, and now the post game, I have the distinct feeling no one at FOX wants the Mariners to win.
Listening to Jeter and Ortiz go on and on how the Mariners had no shot to win this game or the series and then on and on why was nauseating. A-Rod made an effort, but there was no slowing the other two down.
Even the guys on the broadcast were shocked. One of them said he couldn't believe the Mariners won. When Arozarena stole those two bases, Maddux made some smart mouth comment about how stolen bases don't matter since Seattle doesn't score runs that way. Guess what Greg? Jorge has something to tell you.

We miss Randy in Tampa bay.:(

He crushed that pitch...
He made sure with that one. I did not see that game coming. The Jays looked a bit lifeless, like they played a zillion innings and flew across a continent.

I don't know who will pitch for the Mariners tomorrow. It won't be Woo. He will be good to go later in the series. It is looking better than I expected. As a well trained Mariners fan, I still expect an implosion before it is over.

I think other than LA, MLB is very unhappy with the potential world series television ratings. Toronto is at least more of a national audience, since Seattle is pretty close to LA. Just a thought.

NLCS begins today! :hyper:

The Brewers are a very good team. They've won the NL Central four times in the past five seasons, and have only missed the postseason once from 2018-2025. They've proven they can build a very good regular season team. Unfortunately, postseason success has been limited. One NLCS appearance in 2018 and zero World Series appearances. It's time to prove it in the postseason! They are going up against a team that is very familiar with their situation. The Dodgers almost always win their division (every season from 2013-2025 except 2021 when the Giants were playing out of their heads) but they didn't capture a World Series title until 2020. Even then, some naysayers did not consider the 2020 WS win a 'real' one because of the kooky COVID season. I think in 2024 they might have silenced the critics.

The Brewers handled the Dodgers quite well in the regular season (6-0!) but all those games were played during their incredibly hot month of July, coincidentally while the Dodgers were on a bit of a cold streak. Hard to say if that means anything, but at the very least the Brewers have shown fairly recently that they can match up against LA. The Brewers are catching the Dodgers at an interesting time. The Dodgers' lineup hasn't exactly been firing on all cylinders so far in the postseason, although you never know when that might change, and the Dodgers' bullpen is rather questionable. They really need the starting pitching to show up for them. Or for one or two relievers to remember how to pitch better. I'm sure LA and their fans would like that 😂 I have a hard time picking against the Dodgers because of how deep they are, but I believe this could be the year for Milwaukee.

That's an excellent analysis.

Being a Cub fan, we've seen the Brewers a lot and they are just plain good this year. Yet, they are a small-market team and lack any obvious superstar, so the national media tends to discount them, especially in comparison with a star-studded, big market, famous franchise like the Dodgers.

I really think the Brewers could pull this off and sure hope they do.

And how about the "exhausted" Mariners dispatching the well-rested Blue Jays in Toronto last night?? Wow. Baseball is so hard to predict.

I'm looking forward to both games today...though the early game lands right on top of my bi-weekly bass lesson...so I'll have to focus on the arpeggios rather than the knuckle-curves for about an hour....

Exhausted is all relative. The Mariners put in more air miles than any other team on the planet, pretty much. So they are used to it. It is like that every year. Today's game happens while I'm supposed to be working. Hah!

What's worse for a team - playing more games, or going a week without playing any games?
Hard to say! The Jays had nearly a full week off between Game #162 of the regular season and the start of the ALDS. The time off didn’t seem to hurt them in that case. They had ~3 days off between ALDS and ALCS and they didn’t look super hot in the first game… but there’s lots of ball left to play.

I'd say the former. Just because pitchers need rest, and quality starting pitching seems to be so hard to come by these days. If I'm a manager, I want as few bullpen games as possible.

My band was playing a wedding Saturday night. Credit to the crowd, despite the Brewer game being on - they danced up a storm! Into the second set a huge roar went up from the area of the room the TV was. Second later, we're announcing "Brewers Win! Brewers Win!"
Hard not to get excited about this team. My wife and I watch a lot of Brewer games so we know the team, but most outsiders don't. No real #1 superstar. Yelich is as close as that gets, and other guys outplay him on any given night. It is truly a team of, as Pat Murphy calls them, "average joes". The NLDS in my mind is a David vs Goliath, even though we had their number this year. They just have to take care of business at home.

If I was a betting man and had money on the series, I would go with the Brewers. That said, since I have no money on the series and also a Dodger fan, I am hoping for a Dodger win.
