Modulus Mob

I am about to bring another member into my family! My vj4 is going to have a brother! Oh the joy! Oh the tears! He always wanted a playmate. I will now be able to officially say I possess "moduli". It's a very unique q4 and I can't wait to get it! It's from a fellow TBer and for what I consider a very reasonable price. I will surely be posting pics as soon as I get it, I'd love to hear what you guys think. But for now, the WAIT.

The pictures I've seen have been a little more obviously fake- that looks like the got a pic of a real modulus to put up- in fact, I think I remember that bass off of ebay.

But yes, crappy Chinese knockoffs

Ok Modului friends. I really need some tech help with my Q5. I have the NTMB circut in the bass. However, on the NTMB there should be a 3 position toggle for the 250/500/800 mid boost select. My bass however, has a Mid push/pull knob that looks to be working the 250/500 only.. Now my pickups are 66M45C and 68M45C.. The Front pickup (66) is only putting out 4.14K. The rear pickup (68) is putting out 9.24K.
I am thinking I have 2 seperate problems. Firstly, the mid circut needs to be corrected.
Second, why is the output on my neck pickup so low???

OK, I mean I figured as much but that pic had me scratching my head for a minute like "can this be possible?"

Anybody ever actually seen one of these knock offs? Do they look anything like a moddy?

That is a "correct" NTMB. Bartolini offers the 3-band NTMB in two configurations: One version has a Mid pot plus a separate 3-position switch; the other version has a Mid push-pull pot, no separate switch. Because push-pull pots are two-position switches by definition, that version of the NTMB only offers two center frequencies for the Midrange control.

Speaking of Bartolini NTMBs: I just installed one in my Warmoth fretless 5-string with the single Bart quad-coil Musicman-type soapbar.

Previously I had that bass wired up with straightforward passive electronics. It sounded...meh. Swapped out the passive harness for the NTMB, plugged it in...hmm, not bad. Then I gave the Bass a ~3dB boost, and backed off the Treble just a hair (maybe 1dB?). Wow.

WOW!!!

That instrument just got a serious lease on life! Thick and chewy and lubricious with a presence and clarity that just begs to be touched. Sweet.

Hey so I have the hipshot gotoh bass extender on my low E. I heard somewhere (I can't remember where) that there is a way to get the modulus name plate off of the original tuner and put it on the new gb7 bass extender tuner so it matches the rest. I'd love to be able to do this if it's possible (call me OCD). I just like matching my stuff whenever possible.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? Evidentally it's a little known trick?

Hi,
Thank you so much for the update. I will go check this out!!

Double check that his measurements are correct- they don't match this Modulus brochure (I have the manual pdf on my home pc as well, so I can check when I get home). He's claiming 1.85" at nut - 2.75" at top of a perfect neck with truss rod. 19mm string spacing at bridge. I thought a Q5W was essentially a Q6 neck with 5 strings? But that's 21.5mm string spacing...
