not bad... guess if the string spacing is an issue, you can always convert her into a 4-string. new 4-string nut and bridge shouldn't break the bank.
It looks like you could get a pretty cool Musicman type 3+1 vibe with the headstock if you converted it to a 4 too.
I think it's a small minority of moddys that turn out that way over time. It seems to mainly be a matter of how well the neck was fabricated. I'm also fairly convinced that even though graphite necks are not very temperamental, they can still be mistreated which can lead to them warping over time. If you regularly expose it to extreme temperatures on either end of the spectrum, you'll probably eventually warp it. If you try to adjust the action or truss rod without knowing what you are doing, you may put too much tension on the neck which could permanently bow it over time.
As a rule, I'd always make sure the neck was perfect on one that you buy, and always keep your bass in a controlled environment. If you follow those criteria, you should have a bass that'll last you a lifetime.
The epoxy resin medium absorbs moisture over time, as does the phenolic fingerboard, and at different rates, which is the main reason why they warp.
Right but I think if you keep them in controlled environments, they won't be so susceptible to warping. Definitely much less than wood.
I actually don't think it's hugely different over time. I think in the short term, they are much less sensitive to temperature changes than wood. But any neck is going to absorb moisture over time even from a normal controlled environment, unless there is 0% moisture.
We just notice it in the old Modulus and Zons basses because they did not have a way to adjust the neck.
You may be right. But I have owned pretruss moddys that have had the lowest action ever, perfect necks. And others that have been unplayable.
me too. that is why i just wont buy a pre-truss that i cant play first, unless its from someone in the group here
Yup, same. Same with older Zons. I have a pre-truss Zon with a perfectly dead straight neck.
I have a 1991 Quantum (pre-truss of course). It's been in my possession for about the last 10 years. Of course, I take care of it and it's in the house almost all the time, but the neck on it has NEVER moved since I've owned it.
I thought that 8,000 dollar orange one was so ridiculous I was actually gonna point it out to the guy.
But did anyone see that blue flake a few days that went for over $4,000?
I was really surprised to see that. Is that what they're going for now?
It had a lane poor but no truss rod I think.
There was also some cool Js with matching headstocks that I woulda bid on, but no truss rods and I really do want to be able to tweak the neck!
I just added it all up on the Modulus website, and I'm pretty sure an exact replica of that bass that he's selling can be made brand new for $5524. Plus Tax.
Personally, I feel that it's probably worth about $2800 at most. That'd be about half the price.
Wow- i did not see that. There was another with a truss rod that went for $2750, but it had the Duncan pickup and a hipshot bridge. There was a silver one that went for $1800 before that. The finish wasn't anything exciting, but I'd bet you could send it to Marty Bell (supposed to be THE guy for sparkle finishes) and get it whatever xolor you want and come out WAY below $4k... but it's not my money.
If my eyes don't deceive me, a Quantum Turbo is for sale on eBay right now.
