That thing was on Ebay and Reverb for months and then showed up on Guitar Center. Without a truss, that neck has to have issues if they have not sold it and it's 1K!!! Seriously, probably looking at $400+ to get it to play at all.

I will genuinely think about it, missed out on a GTG like 10 years ago and regret it, was also going to drive out to one of Tom Bowlus gatherings forever ago but had some unsafe car issues. Sadly everytime I've been going to attend a gathering for TB life throws some crud my way.
Yup- being an adult sucks some times.
I missed the Lakland 20th anniversary get together as something else came up, so I can sympathize. But hopefully you'll be able to make it!
If I hadn't just buried myself in 4 more basses, I might have made an offer on it since I prefer the older Mod's to the new ones, but I just don't have the cash. I do have my luthier who is spectacular at making these 'no truss' modulus basses sing better than new!!
That bass is near me - stopped in at GC last week for a cable, had a look at it while I was there. The neck is fine; not dead flat, a little bit of relief, but not seriously bowed or anything.
It's very, very clean overall - I don't think there were any chips in the paint on the body at all, and the neck finish was nearly perfect - just some very minor scratches/scuffs on the tip on the headstock.
I think it hasn't sold because
a) it's basically a 5 string built on a 4 string width neck, very narrow spacing, and
b) it's looks are a bit on the side of '80s hair metal.
I didn't bother to plug it in though. I was a little short on time, and not really interested in it because of the narrow spacing. Judging from the overall cleanliness of the bass, and knowing Modulus initial build quality has always been very high, I'd be surprised if there was anything wrong it. Hardware was all clean (basic but good quality bent-plate bridge, gotoh tuners, EMG J-J setup).
I could stop back by and give it a more thorough test if one of you guys was interested.

I was about to say "what gives?" because that price is ridiculous. Then I read the description. Yea, medium high action... That's why it's so cheap.

crud. sorry folks. was half-asleep when i saw the ad and didn't read it all the way thru.
the second pic makes the action not seem too bad. but then again that could be the action 'bottom'd out' and buzzing like crazy.
guess you'd have to add $300-$400 for a fingerboard plane and fret level / fret job.
Is there a way to avoid this, or will all Moddies eventually bow? Or is it Luck of the draw?
