Modulus Mob

Something that I need a little advice on:
When I bought my Q4 last March, there was a little nick in the finish of the neck right between the 15th and 16th frets. The finish is completely removed in that spot, and there’s a bit of discoloration around the spot. It hasn’t changed since I got the bass, but I would like to try to fix it before it does get worse. What are my options? My mom suggested nail polish, but that seems like a rather unsafe method to me. Would any guitar store be able to repair it? Thanks for your help.

So I have this on it's way
Whoa, how have I never heard of that model before?!?!
tbey were In a few guitar centers right at the end of when GC stopped carrying Modulus, along with Pedulla and Warwick for that matter. Single pickup not that flexible but what it did it did well. Huge sound , music man muscle in the P bass position if that makes since. It was a great rock bass and if I had some Meters tunes like sissy strut to cover I would bring that bass

There's an (old) school of thought "Touch up with super-glue (cyanoacrylate)
then sand and polish." Probably your best bet if your finish is polyester.
Which it likely is. I and couple others experiencing a finish peel from years usage
where it was suggested. YRMV as they say. Folks here very knowledgeable/ helpful.
Geoff Gould's on the "staff".
Graphite neck peeling off (Modulus bass)

So I got a unique opportunity... Both Victor Wooten and Edger Meyer are coming to my little corner of the Earth, fairly soon. Putting on separate shows, small venues. I got this 95 Q6. I'm hoping I can get both of them to sign it, turn it into something to pass down, hopefully lasting until at least my grandkids before someone thinks of selling it.

What kind of marker should I get? I'm looking to have it signed on the body, not the neck. So I'm wondering what type of ink/paint will stick and last on the finish. Should I put a sealant over the signatures?

It's a dark, blue-green burst. So I'm kind of leaning towards a gold or yellow color, so they stand out.

That seems like a fairly straight-forward fix. I’d just be too nervous to sand it down. I’d probably scuff up the surround finish horribly. I’ll look into it more, though. Thanks for the link, as well!

Here's mine! Awesome rock bass with kind of an 80's vibe.

JMO, but I'd keep the bass as-is and have them sign an 8x10 photo or something else. Those signatures would add zero value to the bass and if sealed over, would actually probably decrease its value.

I agree, but mostly because I dislike the idea of “defacing” anything. I would never let anyone sign one of my basses if the part wasn’t removable. Doesn’t matter who it is. Unless it’s on a pickguard or something, I’m not letting anyone markup my babies.

I got upset with myself when my cheap $169 Sammick got paint chipped of. If someone wrote on my Modulus, I’d probably die.

had the same situation not too long ago. two divots on the back of a newly aquired q5.

went to the top dog (pat wilkins) who gave me two options:

1. the 'super glue' approach - works fine but can shrink over time so instead of a divot you have a depression.
2. epoxy - doesn't shrink like super glue but can yellow with age so no divot but might have a yellow spot on the neck.

i went with the epoxy option.

if anyone needs any finish work on their moduli, i can't recommend wilkins guitar in l.a. enough. A+

when i do autograph sessions and crazies like jennifer lawrence and scarlett johannson want me to sign their 'unmentionables', i always have my trusty silver sharpie at the ready... (mescaline is one hell of a drug... :roflmao::laugh::roflmao:)

Totally agree, it's tough to escape from Scarlett J. at one of my gigs when she is harassing me, asking me to sleep with her and play my extra low notes for her as I chug through Mustang Sally and Brown Eyed Girl for her and her besties..;) (...but then I usually wake up..).

Did an awards presentation for Jessica Alba and she asked where I got my beautiful Q5.
Later I spotted her and the Q5 sharing a cocktail. Last time I take a Mod someplace nice.

I got Albert Lee to sign the back of the headstock of one of my telecasters

Guitarist in one of the bands I play in has some Fender Strato-something that was signed by Steve Howe and Steve Hackett back when they were in GTR. My friend bought it 2nd hand. The previous owner was trying to capitalize on the signatures as being a "feature" and had the initial sell price marked up accordingly. My friend simply told him "Look, I have no idea who those guys are and their handwriting doesn't make the guitar look, sound, or play any better, I'll give you $X00 take it or leave it."

The guy took it, obviously. I'll be honest, the signatures look pretty crappy. Definitely wouldn't want anybody signing one of my instruments.

If I ever get my idols to sign my bass, it would be on the inside of the control cavity cover. If for any reason I had to sell, I could pick up another cover from Modulus and keep mine. Also, it won't retract from the looks hidden inside the cavity. It also won't wear off!
