Modulus Mob

I've got this exact bass, right down to the pickups. I've played it for almost 20 years. Love it. I hope you are able to find one. Thing is built like a tank. I've only had to have the neck adjusted once in all that time.

Aaron
Hi Aaron,

Thanks for your comment. I hope I do. Let me know if you want to sell yours :)
What woods is yours built out of? I mean body/fingerboard/neck.
Cheers!

Hi all. I'm looking for a Modulus Genesis 5 (Michael Tobias collab).
Fretted, in good overall condition and preferably with Jazz Bass style pickups.
I know that they're quite rare these days, but please let me know if anyone is selling one or if maybe you know of someone who has it up for sale. Feel free to PM me as well.
Thank you very much in advance!
The Genesis models don’t seem to come up for sale too often here but you never know. I’d been waiting for a while and finally snagged one off the TB classifieds in October. Paid a bit more for it than I probably should have, but given how rarely they seem to pop up these days (especially with the specs I wanted)...

I think the body is maple, though I'm not completely certain. It's a red finish that shows the woodgrain through. Neck is probably alder, looking at it, and doing a little research. I'm a woodworker, makes me feel a little silly not knowing, that that I come to it. If I read the Modulus serial # correctly, it was make in 1990. It's a 990585 #. looks like that was actually the first year they used regular serial numbers.

1990 would predate the introduction of the Genesis line. I'm fairly certain your bass is a 1999.

Any specs in particular you are looking for?
Well, I think the tone woods (both neck + fingerboard and body) they're usually using for those are the top of the line. Namely: soma, red cedar, alder, maple, chechen, etc. So I think I'd be cool with any of those but preferably chechen/rosewood fingerboard and an alder or red cedar neck. The body is usually soma, I believe, and if it would have another kind of wood on top - I wouldn't mind it at all.
Jazz pickups and a 2 or 3 band EQ. Colour wise, I guess I'd have to see it. And it would be great to get something with lots of fret life (ideally no fret wear). All of this sounds like a fantasy bass, but I'm sure there still are some out there.

The first two digits represent the year, so yours is a ‘99 (same as mine).

Yes, I missed that when I did a little serial number research. 99 it is, no doubt. I bought it in the summer of 2000. The store I bought it in had it marked as "used," and I think I paid about 1800 for it, or thereabouts. So since it could have been only a year old or so, and was in mint shape, I guess that makes me more or less the original owner.

Where in Montana are you? I miss Bridger Bowl!

Dillon. SW part of the state there.

Best to stay away from Bozeangeles these days. Don't know how long it has been since you were down here, but you can't buy a house for less than 350000 anywhere near Bozeman these days. Mountains up there sure are nice, though.

Aaron
Yeah, I don’t think I’d consider living there, but I love the mountains. :) Haven’t been there in four years.

GC is selling a nice looking silver Q5 with Bassline pickups. The price is certainly right. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
been wondering about this particular bass. it's been "sold" and subsequently relisted soon afterwards a couple of times. has anyone here played the bass? is the neck (pre-truss rod) ok? is it because it's fretless? inquiring minds want to know...

I don’t think it’s a 2017. Looks like something <= 1995.
