Modulus Mob

Cool, sounds like I just need to keep my eyes out. Getting a FU4 with the dual Js would be awesome, but I’m really looking for a Jazz so I figure a VJ would fit the bill nicely while not running the extra premium the FUs seem to come along with. Ideally I think finding just the neck I can mate to a slimmer Jazz style extra lightweight body would be the ticket but since Modulus doesn’t do necks alone anymore finding a neck by itself would be super rare.
Yeah, and Status stopped making necks as well. Good luck finding a VJ.

Up until closure, Status were pricing their necks around 350GBP a piece in 2022 (info still up on their website), which would land them somewhere in 400-500 USD, and I expect this was not loss-making for them. It may of course be that different processes have different costs - not sure how many would bite at $1,000.

I bet you could sell some of your current necks. Share the heel dimensions and leave it up to some one to find a suitable body. Won't hurt you other than to have a small number available (2 or 3). Eventually, you could just use them as part of your normal production instruments if they sit around "too long".

Geoff, if you do decide to sell the current five string necks by themselves, I’d be in for a few. Would be interested in necks with the pink ivory and phenolic fretboards.

I’m not sure many people realize how expensive it is to make a quality graphite neck. If the math says the price for a neck is $1000, would anyone still want one?
I must admit, when i first read your question, i thought the price sounded a bit high. But if that neck was mated with body and components of a premium bass (very likely) that goes for >$2k total*, it seems to me the neck is a very good value at that price.

And i was only thinking of a bolt on neck at first. Does your question apply to neck through as well?

*: As we all know, there are lots of those from various makers.

I also know how fortunate i was to find my fretless 5er used for what i paid for it!

Well it’s been awhile, but I’m finally back to being a modulus owner again; and what a sweet one it is!
I also need to find out what’s up with planet bass… is anybody home? Ive emailed and called with no success.

Congrats man! I missed out on that one a few years ago when it first came up for sale. That is a beauty to get back in the game with, for sure!
