Modulus Mob

Eyyy thanks! It's been super fun, though now I'm trying to get another Q5 (under $3k) so I don't have to take my baby on the road.

Great to see you in this thread! I just want to say you have been playing great in the new gig. I have only ever seen one other teal quilt Mod. Very nice bass.

When I lived in Boston back like 20 years ago, I ended up trading an Eden amp I had for a mid nineties Q5 that was previously owned by Steve Buslowe who I hadnt heard of at the time but I guess he was the bass player for Celine Dion and Meatloaf. That was a great bass but its long gone now

My 94 Silverbust is actually having another mod done to it. Since the SS pickup was removed WAY before I bought the bass, I am having a 3rd pickup put into the route that is already there. It will be tied to the neck pickup, but it will be a triple pickup SS!! Kind of funny.
Anyway, I will post pics later today. Just got too busy during my lunch today.
Did the 3rd pu mod get finished? How does the ss pair when tied to the neck pu?

Question for @GeoffGould or anyone else who knows the answer... I have one of the 1988 neck-through body 3-pickup Quantum Five-strings that pre-dated the TBX models. One of the Gotoh machine heads is shot, I would like to either replace just that one or the whole set. Does anyone know the model of Gotoh machine heads that were used on these basses at the time? And, if that model is no longer available what can I replace them with that will not require any modifications to the headstock of the bass? Not sure of the shaft diameter on these either so that info would also be helpful, particularly if I look at options from other manufacturer's.
Thanks!

Thanks Geoff!
I guess I could contact Gotoh and ask them if the GB350 would be a direct replacement for the GB7 tuners. Diagram seems to indicate the GB350 have a 11mm wide shaft and the hole for the screw is 11.5mm from the center of the shaft, will measure the distance to the screw hole on mine but prefer to not have to pull the tuner to measure the shaft.

Hard to believe I have had this bass for 36 years... it has definitely seen more use than any of the other basses I own.

I'm prejudiced, as I still play the same model.
Your six-string is pretty unique but I was always surprised that given your "inside connection" you never got a second one, maybe with a wider neck. Over the years I have developed a preference for wider five-string necks. The widest one I have is the composite wood/graphite neck on my Cocobolo 2003 GGi five-string, it is also my favorite neck. I wish my Alembic Series II and my Quantum bass had the same width and contour of neck as my GGi 5.

I heard back from Gotoh about replacing the tuners on my 1988 Quantum bass. Here is their reply... the link goes to the Allparts site and the Gotoh GB707 tuners.

"It is possible to directly replace the GB7 with the GB350, but the GB350 has a thicker string shaft.
Tuners with the same specifications as the GB7 are available at the stores listed below..."

I am pretty sure the GB350 model is lighter but I don't really want to modify the existing mounting holes in the headstock.

Absolutely stunning
Thanks!... it is a beast of a bass, capable of clear wall-shaking lows, I love Alembic electronics and the custom set I had made for this bass really bring out everything it has to offer.

Well, I did make myself a slightly wider 6:

It's nice, but the narrower neck is always a little faster, and easier to play! I'll probably sell this "lab experiment."

That's a really pretty bass Geoff! Is there anything particularly experimental about it or was the experiment getting used to a wider neck?
The experimental part of it was it was made at the same time we made the bass for Andy West. It’s got six strings on the five string neck. So it’s narrower than our current model, but for me it’s wider than what I’m used to playing.

I was interested in refretting my 1999 Modulus Quantum 6 it has the original frets which are very very worn. I'm investigating fret sizes, does anyone know what Modulus uses today? Have they always used the same size frets? Should I just go ahead and use jumbo? Appreciate your advice!
Pretty sure jumbo size for the most part. Stainless steel works well with those basses.
