Most annoying instrument (to your ears)?

I'm really surprised by some of the replies. For instance, I don't get all the disdain for harmonica. I like blues harp AND Dylan/Neil Young-style folk harmonica. I think it contributes to the folk songs.

Pedal Steel?? IMO, pedal steel can be an absolutely gorgeous, expressive instrument. And it's not an easy instrument to play, either.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of horn sections. But it's the brass family that bothers me - especially the trumpet. I can appreciate the skill required, but it just seems shrill all too often to my ears. I do love me some alto sax though.

i've been lucky to get to perform with some really fine musicians on all instruments. i've heard really beautiful things from pretty much everything.

anytime you hear sub-par performances it's going to be annoying. so, assuming you're hearing pro-quality playing, my top picks for least favorites are oboe and soprano sax.
