A horn, car horn, trumpet, brass instruments. They're all the same to me. I can tolerate them in an orchestra, but other than that, it's like listening to car horns. I like bagpipes though.

I used to hate banjo, but then I heard Bela Fleck.

I used to hate accordion, but then I heard Buckwheat Zydeco.

I used to hate oboes and bassoon, but then I heard The Move and King Crimson.

I used to hate bagpipes, but then I heard "It's A Long Way To The Top" by AC/DC.

So that just leaves French horn in the cringe-worthy category. And man, I can't tell you how much I hate French horn! What a wretched, horrid instrument of musical torture French horn is!

I'm totally feeling this. It seems like such an innocent instrument, too.

I also don't particularly care for a single violin playing alone. I'll take string sections all day forever, but a lone violin makes me crazy in a bad way. It's no coincidence that a violin and mandolin share exactly the same range.

Distorted electric guitars, hate them with a passion. High pitched saxophone and trumpet solos. Drummers getting over-excited and hitting the kit too hard. All horrible.

The Violin, most types, the rougher "gypsy" folk tone is cool but the shrill "classical" type tone gets to me, can't handle too much "piano" either. Soprano sax, again, the super refined tone is not appealing.
A LOT of tone depends on the player, makes it difficult to blame an instrument, most times.

My vote: The human voice. Any instrument could be annoying, and most can also sound good when used well, but (almost) everyone has a mouth to try to sing with, and few do it passably

+1. If I had to be more specific I would say Anthony Kiedis' voice. Narrowing it down even further, Anthony Kiedis' voice on "Scar Tissue". The OP made a reference to nails on a chalkboard, yup, that's it for me.

The trumpet has the same feel as the Holdsworth tune I posted.
That sounds like something I would hear on WDCB Jazz.
I like the time signature changes and the sax and trumpet counterpoint near the end.

I don't want to derail the thread but PM me if you are interested in them. There's so much I would want to say I could go on and on.

And since I want to keep this on topic, I thought about it for 1.4 seconds and I still dislike the bagpipes!
