Most annoying instrument (to your ears)?

I was recently joking with a bandmate and told him that the best way to tune a banjo is with wirecutters and he looked kind of bummed. He had just taken up the banjo. I would be more bummed about owning a banjo.

I like when someone rocks hard on a harmonica and really jams, but I can't stand the guy singing, playing guitar, and having a harmonica strapped to his chest and he just breathes in and out of it.

We call that Donkey Harmonica here.

But I REALLY dislike the ukulele and wish that all of these twee, toy "instruments" could be rounded up and swiftly rocketed into our sun.

Once upon a time I would have agreed with you. Then I spent time in Nashville and listened live to some guys that can really play pedal steel well. It can be an amazing instrument.
See if you can find anything by The Nashville Bar Association - an all pedal steel band from the 70s.
If you think Dickey Betts is great on guitar, you should hear him on pedal steel.
