I think some baaaaaad Big Al G.A.S. is settling in. Can someone pass the Tums Please 
I have a killer Reflex that does pretty much everything a Big Al does I THINK?
But there is something about the funky spacey Body style!!
And also my Reflex is an HSS.....the Big Al I would buy would be the SSS.
Guessing it would be a decent tonal difference to merit the sound end of things.
I Believe my reflex has the wider Stingray neck, while the Big Al has the more narrow Sterling style neck, right?
That Big Al body style is Just very cool to my eye.
Wanted to hold out to find a cool color one with a matching headstock.
But the longer I wait, the less picky I become....hahaha!
Hope to be asking for a number in the not too distant future

Reflex has a Bongo Size neck, a little slimmer than a ray, but not as small as a sterling. Big Al has a Sterling neck.. By far the most comfortable for me.
I think the classic rays, have a different neck entirely, or at least a different radius.. but i don't have a classic, or at least not a reissue classic.

I thought my Reflex neck felt a tiny bit more narrow than the stingrays. Not a big difference, But a difference.
Have not much playtime on her, just got it recently.
The finish on that Reflex neck is to die for...smooth as silk.
Have never played a Sterling or Big al...but if I were to buy one un played and take a chance...I would go for the Big Al for the cosmic good looks! The unique SSS pup config. and the 18V 4 band Bongo electronics!!
The Big al neck is the same as the Sterling, and if you go for a 5er, the same as the Sterling 5 (which I believe is the same as the Ray 5).
The pickups are what attracted me. That, and the sheer cool style.
As soon as they were announced, I KNEW I would get one. Super cool,super modern, yet able to get close to vintage tones as WELL as modern EBMM tones.
Having a single at the bridge is super cool, IMO. Very different for EBMM.

I don't think I'll ever get rid of my Big Al. Someone has a tagline in their sig that says something like 'it's the standard by which all my other basses are judged'. That's pretty much how I feel too.
Tonally there is just something about the single coils in series (the secret setting) that makes that bass sound soooo big and full. Your humbucker in series can get close but it just doesn't have the same personality IMO. This is what separates the SSS from the HSS in my opinion.
It can go from smooth and sweet to being able to level buildings. I love that.

Here is what I ended up going for.
An as new Cabernet pearl Big Al.
Deposit in place, will pick it up in person shortly.
Not in hand yet, so no number needed just yet. Will snap new pics and ask for one when I am holding it
She comes with 2 pickguards....I am leaning towards the White one? what do you think? Curious

I would use the black for everyday and the white for Formal events.

I couldn't take it... I kept looking for a second bass to alternate with my Spector Rebop, but kept coming up short.
Just agreed to a deal for another Big Al 5 here locally around Nashville.
I miss it's versatility to contrast to what I like about what the Spector naturally does.
And this one's 'white' with white headstock, so will definitely need a white mother of pearl pickguard to complete the white out theme.

Here's my baby. Can I have a number? I plan on keeping this beauty til the day I die. I might just have myself cremated and let Big Al have my burial plot. Love this thing. BFR, roasted, black sugar, ebony, SSS, absolutely knocks down walls or plays nice and easy. Love serial passive & active (bridge & middle PU's).
