MusicMan/Jazz Bass name?

I prefer the way of EBMM. Although RayJay sounds cool.

The hairsplitter in me despises the "P/J/MM" colloquialisms, because the pickups are not sold or actually labeled by those names.

I use them occasionally because folks know what they mean. However, what EBMM calls them -- Humbucker/Single -- would be the most technically accurate label.

However, I do realize nobody else really cares. Except @Killed_by_Death ... maybe.

But I do care, that's why I asked, Thank You very much. ... BTW, which Musicman Bass (model) has a single-coil pickup in it alongside the Humbucker? I've seen ones with two humbuckers, but never a humbucker and a single coil. ... I'm talkin Basses here, not guitars.

I always called it J/MM. But "RayJay" is the coolest name to pop up in the thread so far. I may have to start using that.

MM/J is a unique and interesting combination. Although they didn't necessarily invent it, it seems like after Lakland used this configuration on its early models, others copied it quite a lot.

I would call it with neck pup first then all others moving towards bridge. True that EBMM calls them backwards, and coil numbering on their basses runs bridge coil #1 & higher towards the neck. Kinda backwards IMO.

? That's wrong?! That's the way I call it, starting from bridge, number 1, and neck, number 2 pick up

This makes the most sense to me. ... by the way, I Hate Ray J (the "rapper"), and I would never call my Bass by that name

Sorry to go the other way, but I’m kinda thinking J/MM. don’t get me wrong, I think it rolls off the tongue betrrr your way. It’s jyst that the P/J is already established precedent. Neck first, bridge second... I do like consistency in nomenclature. Even if it results in a wonky execution of the designation.

FWIW, Aguilar sells their set as 4M/J-HC or 5M/J-HC respectively. So, MJ I suppose.
