My mutt from TB parts graveyard, my number 1 . It has a fretless Am Std. 2013 neck, an old,old,old body stripped from CAR (what s the saying ?, "so old it forgot it was a tree"),old bartolini pickups (from the 1980's from 48th street rudy's music), hipshot b from another sold bass and my own wiring harness. A lot cheaper than my vintage 60's jazz basses , but sounds great and never worry about dings or theft. It has been on various tours both in the US and abroad.

The bass looks = " it has a face made for radio".

why such a cheap bass, you ask?

Hey Pcake !! No such thing as a 'cheap' bass now days. Just over-priced basses. A $3000 bass is not 10 times better than a $300 bass. Just an expensive finish and gold hardware, and sometimes a little better electronics and a big name. Sure, some may hand pick the better wood, but you can go to GC and hand pick a $300 bass that is solid.

My beloved ‘15 with the DiCola/EB tapped pickups. Played through my SVT, Mesa TT 800, or M6 Carbine, it produces any tone imaginable. No preamp pedals required.

I’m so tempted to say that all of my Musicman basses are tied for first because they are. My 2007 ceramic SR5HH is still probably my overall number one and my 2019 Stingray Special 5HH is right there with it.

But, I almost can’t believe I’m saying that, at least at the moment, my 2011 Candy Red Big Al 5 SSS is my current #1 by a small margin. I’ve only had it a few months so I may still just be in the honeymoon phase, but I have been just blown away by how great this bass sounds and how there’s just not a bad tone in the ridiculous amount of tonal variation it has. Even more surprising to me is that I’m a HARDCORE burst, tort, and FSO guy and this is my only bass that doesn’t fit my “type”. But I just love this bass!

My go to is a Harley Benton HTR 5 string. I've made a couple of changes and this critter plays and sounds as good as anything I own. It's a total surprise and I have some expensive stuff. Naysayers will never agree that this is possible but, yes it is.

My favorite is my most recent acquisition... isn't it always . I sold many basses I wish I could have back and this is my, new to me, Carvin SB4000. Love the ease of playing, the sound and the simplicity!!!

My go to bass - Frankenfender. I desperately wanted a Seafoam green P Bass and couldn't find one.

Hence this - Body by Warmoth, the rest by Fender. I put it together, got to experience the fun of covering the cavity with copper tape (a real PITA), and I love it.

You know, that’s a choice looking bass that never caught on for some reason. Maybe 3 pickups put people off, don’t know…but while I never played one, I like the look.

Out of the six I have, my #1 is a 31"scale 5 string I built about 5 years ago. Why? Light. I used paulowinia for the body. It weighs in at just over 7lbs. Has Bartolini P2's (my fave) and John East pre with a passive tone (also a fave). So, I love the sound and versatility.

I can well believe it! I bought a HB fretless J type bass six years ago to see how I got on with one before shelling out proper money for a Fender and it's awesome! Never felt the need to upgrade. Great price to quality ratio.
