Hard to call it, but my Gretsch Thunderjet would get the call over my 1963 P. It has a great sound and the 30" scale works well for me these days.

My current number one is my early 2000s LTD F-205 at the bottom of the photo. It just nestles against my body so snuggly and the neck is pretty comfy for me despite being a little chunkier than what I normally go for. I also love how its finish looks anywhere from wine red to magenta depending on the light.

It's a classic case of a bass that's not really my type but I have a great time with it. I can pretty much play it with my eyes closed.

Had one in the early 90s playing in a pop/reggae-ish garage band with friends, traded it for a P-Bass when the band broke up but always thought if I play reggae again I'm gonna get one. Fast forward to last year, after a year or so in a reggae band and I picked this one up.

why such a cheap bass, you ask?

i love the black with that pickguard, the neck is comfy and fast, unlike some broncos, this one arrived intonated, the size is super comfortable but with more fingerboard room than a 28.6" bass, and the pickup... well, something's up with it. i've owned 3 broncos and played many. the rest have your average single coil noise, which makes sense as a bronco has a single single coil pickup. but for some reason, this one is pretty much silent. and that stock pickup sounds better to my ears than any of the others i've played including the other bronco i played through the exact same rig.

what's your current number 1 and why?

the broncos are amazing! And most I’ve seen have some flame on the neck.

It’s deffo a toss-up between my Oly White & Black FrankenFenders… of course one wears flats - the other rounds… so there’s that Why? ‘Cause I assembled them using parts I like

Sire V3-5 with Audere pre and Nordstrands . The pre has a passive type control that is very handy . Getting so I can't do without it .

I ordered this bass 21 years ago and it very special to me. Alembic Europa 5 string w/ Series I electronics. Currently I have TI Flats on it and it just works.

Gotta say this is a great thread. Lots of cool #1's out there. Great job starting it pcake.
