My HORRIBLE Alleva-Coppolo experience...

I don't think that any TB member in good standing needs anyone else's permission in order to weigh in on this situation (as long as its civil).
The cards were on the table the moment that bass left the shop in that condition. The sad thing is, if it is made right(and I hope with a full refund), it won't be due to communication of unknown elements, mis-understandings cleared up or whatever. It will be due to the flak that AC is getting from this thread for allowing that bass out of the shop to begin with. Locking this thread wiould be counter productive (inappropriate posts, as always, should be censored or removed).

There have been a couple of questions about timeline on this deal... I understand why that would be important to people.

As per TalkBass rules, I can't post full email conversations, but here's a very brief breakdown.

Feb 11 - First contact about the bass
Jul 9 - Second contact about the bass
Jul 10 thru Jul 25 - Back and forth stuff
Jul 26 - Purchase made
July 29 - Bass ships
Aug 2 - Bass received
Aug 5 - First contact made describing all issues
Aug 6 thru 7 - More back and forth about issues
Aug 7 - I ask for my money back
Aug 8 - No response
Aug 9 - 2nd request for money back early in the morning
Aug 9 - Received denial of refund that afternoon
Aug 9 - Sent my last reply and nothing since

I think this thread should be locked until we hear from AC or the OP on a resolution.
I'm actually going to discuss this with whichever high ranking mods would like to discuss it with me, and see what they say.

I'm honestly freaked out by conflict... I haven't slept... I feel ill... and they have more experience than I do.

i just talked at length to Jimmy. he read me some of the many emails he got tonight.

"you're a total POS" was used a lot-
but the longshot fave for psychosexual transference hysteria so far has been:

"...and if it was me, i would've come to your shop and watched the LOOK on your face as i ****** the neck of the bass up your ***"...

as far as the bass in question-
is there a problem? sure.
can it be remedied? most likely.

has the remedy timeframe been satisfactory to all immediately involved
(that is, the OP and jimmy)? apparently not.

again, can it be remedied? most likely.

meanwhile, the lip-smacking
"we're at 40,000 VIEWS and COUNTING!!!!"
and
"THIS wil be at the TOP of AC's, like, GOOGLE SEARCH, mannnnnn..."
and
"his career is, like, OVER and his reputation is TORCHED!!"

by many posters who have never seen an AC bass in person, much less played one,
is more a symptom than an expression of concern.

the sun will rise in the morning, guys. we'll get through this.
and, hopefully, with some class and rationality.

and to that end, it also might be best to hear jimmy's side, before any more such Deliverance threats are spewed out there in the dark.

Hope he's not trying to play the victim card now. Did he mention resolution while you spoke with him?

This thread should not be locked at this juncture. There are really only 2 important parties involved, the OP and the builder. The builder should at least have the opportunity to respond if he chooses. If he chooses not to respond then the OP has accomplished what he set out to and the moderators can act accordingly.

you are welcome to contact me directly and we can discuss it. for what it's worth, given what you have shared in your OP, i am against closing it.

as for the inappropriate and ugly emails the builder has received, that's lame and undeserved, but certainly not a surprise. you should see the emails -i- receive when i ban someone. welcome to the internet, where even slimy sleazeballs and douchebags get a voice.

i would suggest that anyone getting hatemail about this, including the builder, contact me via pm or email with the offender's email. if someone is doing this crap through tb (and that means they're a member here and they are then trolling someone through regular email) their accounts may be penalized just as if they did it on the forums.

In this Internet age it is often forgotten the benefit of a phone conversation. Did you, Addison, ever try to call Jimmy? I honestly really hope this works out for both of you, but a phone conversation seems warranted here, even at this point.
I had one conversation prior to purchase where I asked a few general questions about a couple of concerns I wrote down and one more conversation to make payment.

Both were pleasant and i heard everything I needed to hear to pull the trigger.

Since I received the bass, I felt it was important that all conversation was documented, so I stuck to email.

I agree with your sentiment 100%... it's a lost art and it makes me sad that people feel they have to do everything in writing these days to make sure their butts are covered.

Holy crap. This sounds eerily like cash flow or other personal issues might have caused a sea change in worldview/behavior. Unless there is a response to this thread (ideally consisting of an apology/explanation and refund) I will be very disappointed, but not as enraged as the OP has every right to be.

+1 to keeping this thread open!!!

Well seems like AC already said that you wont have any refund, I hope he will fix all the issues for free or at least he can give you a decal so you can hire somebody else to do a proper finish and repair the neck. All this make me wonder if Jimmy is in fact a true master luthier or he should focus on selling pickups and electronics only.

This thread is not going to get locked unless the OP requests it or the issue becomes resolved. We have no more reason to lock bad customer service threads than we do good customer service threads, and bad customer service deserves just as much attention as good customer service does (and those threads take up 90% of the Basses forum). If the thread is not to your liking, move on to a different one.

Modulus will be alright.

Jimmy's good reputation in the end will absorb this particular incident.

Hmmmm... I'm not sayin'.. but I'm just sayin'....
:hiding:

Edit - Just FYI, this is neither a slam against Jauqo or an indictment of the situation. Yes, there is a huge difference in between the Modulus situation and this situation. I just found the possibility of a parallel somewhat... well, humorous.

I sincerely hope there is a resolution that benefits both parties and allows them both to move forward and put all of this behind them.

Hang in there Addison!
You did the right thing.

My question for you is:

If Jimmy offered to accept the bass back as a return, could you give him the opportunity to build you (in a timely manner) an equivalent replacement bass, for the same price, that met your original expectations? Would you be willing to do that or do you just want the refund?
My hope is that there could be a win-win outcome for both AC and the OP.
