Not trying to disrespect your wonderful instruments in any way, but I think you didn't see my post, then... I could note that my Ritter Platinum Roya Concept was quite a bit more than both your Alembics, and that I bought that one, my custom Ritter Roya 5, my Fodera Monarch Deluxe, AND my '63 Precision THIS YEAR...!! :p

But if by prize you mean best/most beautiful bass(es), then it's another argument that I would never start (for obvious reasons of everybody's taste being different).
I never had the chance to play an Alembic, but seeing yours definitely makes mu hands itch... :D

Wow, that brings back memories! I had a red Gibson EB2 that I bought around 1977 and sold a year or two later. I have no idea what I spent, but probably in the same ball park. I bought mine in Madison, WI.

My most recent purchase was $2700 for a used Warwick Custom Shop Dolphin Pro I - haven't regretted the purchase for a second; it plays like a dream!

The custom Warwick pictured here, second from the left. Was around $3800 when new in '98, including the very hard to find NOS Kahler (Thanks Beaver!) and EMG electronics. Would be a pain in the ass to replace it now, since the Fortress is out of production. Never seen another one with a ovangkol body.

No idea of the current value.

still at home with me ... My 94 CT 8 string...

My Alembic Stanley Clarke Brown Bass... these two together cost me over $15,000 Then behind these in price are my other CTs, Spellbinders (2of which were owned by Stanley Clarke #3,#4), Fodera, Ritter,Warrior and others... other crazy gas attacks... A Ritter and Ken Smith bought the same day , on another day bought a Dingwall and F bass,,,, and in one week bought the Alembic brown bass on Tues and a ribbecke hafling on thur,,,plus this doesnt include my 15 Birdsongs over the past couple years!!! Talk about GAS !!!:eek:

My F-Bass BN4. I paid $2200 for her used (but she was dead mint) from the great TBer CTbass&birdsong (thanks man!). New this bass was $6850 with all of the options on her according to the price list on the F-Bass website.

It's the ONLY bass that I have been 110% satisfied with. Every gig I take her to, she just sounds perfect. I bring one of my other basses to every gig as well for some tunes that we do in non-standard tunings. Those basses sound good, but when I strap the F back on and start playing, it just makes me realize how killer she sounds. I'll never sell that bass!

I am glad you love her!!! She is a dreamboat and was a gem in my families bass collection!!! we are glad she is with someone that loves her !!! :bassist::bassist:

You're right. I somehow missed your post. How the heck could that happen? Posts from guys like you, CTbass&birdsong, Tombowlus, and Brad Johnson are the ones I show my wife to say "See? I'm not that far from normal"

It was more serendipity than plan. The 5 string had been on order for some time, then out of the blue I had heard that Stanley Clarke was auctioning off all of his gear. I browsed the catalog and made him an offer on the 4 string and he accepted.

The Spellbinders were also part of that auction and I gave some thought to bidding on one, but I had to have the particular Alembic I bought from him. Several years earlier my wife (fiance' at the time) and I went to see the Clarke / Duke Project at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. Second row seats. Stanley stood on the seat directly in front of us and went nuts on a solo. The bass I bought from him, the one I'm balancing on my foot, is the bass that he was using that night.
